Leadership:
Needs of the Elder Population
The overwhelming evidence is..
older adults prefer to “age in place” in their existing homes and communities… only 5
percent of older adults age 55 and older change residences in a given year..”
However, to successfully age in their existing home or another home in their community,
older adults may need to.. move to another residence that is more accessible, more affordable
or more appropriate in size to accommodate their changing needs..”

Amending the LDRs for gas station signage
Planning, Zoning and Appeals Board
January 13, 2015
Background
April 22, 2014- Palm beach County passed the “Palm Beach Motor

July 10, 2014-Ordinance was presented to Council and staff was asked
to meet with gas station owners to discuss the PBC Ordinance

January 9, 2014 – Staff met with gas station owners to discuss the current

Palm Beach County Ordinance
Staff met with local gas station owners to better understand their most
significant issues under the PBC Ordinance which involved the following:
Every single type of gas offered is required for display (i.e. Regular,
Special, Super, Diesel, etc.)
In addition to the maximum (highest) price being displayed, a “Cash
Only” designation must be placed next to the discounted price for
each type of fuel sold at the discounted price at least six (6) inches tall
As a result, these requirements would cause confusion and sign
clutter

Proposed Changes
Require that “CASH” (min. 6 inches tall) be
displayed by the prices
Require “CREDIT ADD ____” (min. 6 inches
tall) showing the difference of credit pricing
clearly displayed adjacent to the cash prices
Allow the ground sign base to be utilized if
necessary
Proposed Changes
The proposed changes maintain the intent of the PBC
Ordinance, but allow for the signs to still meet code and not
appear so cluttered.
Changes are permissible by the City’s LDRs, and make the
intent more achievable and practical for the consumers as
well as the owners.
