HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes RAB 0417171 CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS 2 PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD 3 REGULAR MEETING 4 April 17, 2017 5 Assistant to the City Clerk informed the Board per City Code, in the absence of the Chair and 6 Vice Chair, the Board is required to approve by motion and vote a Chair Pro Tern to conduct the 7 meeting. 8 Board Member Russo nominated Board Member Fennon for Chair Pro Tern. 9 Board Member Bonvento seconded. 10 Motion passed 5-0. 11 I. CALL TO ORDER 12 The regular meeting was called to order at 6:08 p .m. by Chair Pro Tem Fennon. 13 II. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 14 III. ROLL CALL 15 PRESENT: Chair Pro Tern Valerie Fennon, Bruce Bonvento, George Wicker, Shelly Roe, 16 Joseph Russo Jr. (sitting in for Christopher Dinolfo) 17 ABSENT: Chair Carol Ellis, Vice Chair Maryanne Hedrick, Christopher Dinolfo. 18 ALSO PRESENT: 19 Council Liaison, Mayor Maria Marino; Recreation Director, Staff Liaison Laura Schuppert. 20 IV. ADDITIONS, DELETIONS, MODIFICATIONS 21 None. 22 V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 23 Board Member Russo made a motion to approve the minutes from the November 21, 2016 joint 24 meeting with the Palm Beach Gardens Youth Athletic Association (PBGY AA) minutes. 25 Board Member Roe seconded. 26 Motion passed 5-0. 27 Board Member Russo made a motion to approve the minutes from the November 21 , 2016 28 regular meeting minutes. 29 Board Member Roe seconded. 30 Motion passed 5-0. 31 VI. ITEMS BY COUNCIL LIASON 32 Council Liaison, Mayor Maria Marino, 33 Announced Balsamo (also known as Ancient Tree), Carlton Oaks, and Osprey Isles was recently 34 annexed into the City; Future development will have a $5 billion dollar impact on the City; 35 Avenir will add 400 homes; Alton will add homes and an Assisted Living Facility; Gardens 36 Corporate Center was approved by City Council; Joseph R. Russo Athletic Complex will be 37 opening soon; Sandhill Crane Golf Clubhouse looks great; Met with Florida Department of 38 Transportation in regards to Northlake Boulevard and 1-95; Thanked PGA Professional Sherri 39 Pia for her work with the Junior Golf Program. 40 VII. ITEMS BY STAFF LIAISON 41 Recreation Director, Staff Liaison Laura Schuppert 42 None. 43 VIII. OLD BUSINESS 44 a. Golf Clubhouse Update 45 Proiects Director Charlotte Presensky provided a status on the golf course clubhouse 46 construction and announced a completion date of November 2017. Presentation by Palm Beach Gardens Youth Athletic Association 3 Anthony Badala, PBGY AA President 4 Provided an update on the PBG Y AA programs and thanked staff and the board for the support of 5 the association. Penny Sales Tax Proiects: Soccer Complex/Baseball Complex/f ennis Clubhouse 7 Presentation by Daniel Prieto, Sport Director 8 Provided an overview of the use of the Penny Sales Tax for Soccer and Baseball Complex. 9 Discussion ensued. 10 Recreation Director Laura Schuppert 11 Provided a presentation on the new tennis clubhouse that will paid for by the penny sales tax . 12 Discussion ensued. 13 c. Upcomine. Special Events 14 Recreation Director Laura Schuppert 15 Announced the upcoming special events in the City. Discussion ensued. 16 X. COMMENTS BY THE PUBLIC 17 None. 18 XI.
