Dept. has removed lighting in many of the existing parks at PBSO’s request, as they have reports of lights attracting & encouraging unwanted behavior •Modifying UDLC (Land Development Code) to no longer require lights in parks that are only open from dawn to dusk International Dark Sky Association •Light pollution = inappropriate or excessive use of light •Can have serious environmental consequences for humans, wildlife, and our climate •Goal is preservation and protection of the natural nighttime environment and our heritage of night skies for present and future generations Summary •Excited to complete project for public benefit and community improvement •Grant dollars leveraged •If Town insists on lights, we will install 2 solar parking lights mounted on 12’ poles, but want to be clear that this is not consistent with other natural areas facilities nor does it set any precedent for other projects •Thank you for your consideration and collaboration Any questions?
