Adjournment ,, 4 - , : % Beautification and Environmental Committee Summary Notes Wednesday, May 1, 2002 The May 1, 2002, regular meeting of the PBG B&E Committee has called to order by Connie Premuroso at 5:55 P.M. in the Growth Management Department meeting room of the Municipal Complex located at 10500 North Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The following members were in attendance: Connie Premuroso, Jeff Renault, Betty Marks, and William Olsen. City Council Liaison David Clark and Staff Liaison Mark Hendrickson were present. Aaproval of the minutes: The April 3, 2002 meeting minutes were approved. Items bv the Citv Council Liaison and Staff Liaison Mark Hendrickson stated that the City has received Tree City USA recertification for the fourteen year. The Committee requested that news be advertised. Mark advised he would notified Ann Schilling. Old Business a) City of Palm Beach Gardens Natural Areas Brochure: Connie began the discussion by exhibiting the Art-in-Public Places brochure that Mark had supplied to the Committee as an example of what another City Committee had done in the past. Mark picked up the discussion by suggesting to the Committee that he will take down the Committee's ideas for the brochure, like a map and pictures. Mark had a conversation with Donna about what should be in the brochure. She specifically wanted it to deal with only preserves and environmental lands and linkages, like the PGA parkway. The map could show the Intracoastal Waterway as a corridor, similar to the parkway. The Committee needs to setect the kinds of pictures they want. Mark also had an idea (since the Committee had discussed wildlife) that the brochure could say " slow down - the Gardens has wildlife." The a % r Police Department should like the idea, and the retail community should like it as well. By slowing the traffic down, the animals crossing the road may survive better. Jeff asked Mark about where the public preserves are in the City. Mark points out the Hungryland Slough Natural Area, the Sandhill Crane Natural Area, the Loxachatchee Slough Natural Area. He describes how the PGA Boulevard parkway links the Frenchman's Preserve off of Prosperity Farms Road. The map could also show the airport preserve, and Grassy Rivers Preserve and other preserves in the County. Mark stated that Councilmember David Clark told City Council about the brochure, so hopefully there will be funding available. The brochure needs to be in color and professional looking. Jeff suggested numbering the preserves. Betty asked about other areas. Mark asked the Committee, if they would consider the preserves associated with our City schools. Connie agreed. Mark focused on the City's canal system and other waterways, because Frenchman's Creek has a Mangrove Preserve can be reach by boat. Other preserves include Prosperity Oaks Preserve and Allamanda Gopher tortoise preserve. Jeff states that a lot of these areas become designation places. Connie asked about the preserves in PGA National. Mark said Northern Palm Beach County Improvement District owns the land, which is quasi- public. Jeff states the City has canoeing, biking, hiking, boating, equestrian. A discussion continued on everything environmental happening in PBG. Connie asked what do we do for the next meeting. Who is going to photograph? Mark said he some pictures. Mark suggests making a list of potential pictures needed for a brochure, and organize the map and pictures. William suggests having a photo contest. Mark suggests everyone carry their camera with them from now on. Mark also suggest more language could be "pick up your trash," and "be careful with fire." Jeff asked if the County had an example of a brochure. Mark will check. William makes a point of whether the brochure will promote a specific use. Some research will need to be done to determine what we can promote. Mark states the City Police and other Departments will have input. Mark will put the bullets of this meeting down in the minutes. .i, New Business None Adiournment The meeting was adjourned at 7PM. The next meeting will be June 5, 2002.
