COMMUNITY AESTHETICS, BOARD
DECEMBER 5, 2007
MINUTES
The Community Aesthetics Board met on December 5, 2007. The meeting was called to
order by Donna Wisneski, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Municipal
Complex located at 10500 North Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
• Minutes from the previous meeting were not available.
V. ITEMS BY COUNCIL LIAISON
Jody Barnett, Council Member, Council Liaison, stated the Christmas tree lighting
would take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Bums Road Community Center and everyone is
invited. Should the Community Aesthetics Board (CAB) meeting go beyond
6:00 p.m., she would have to leave to attend the tree lighting.
VI. ITEMS BY STAFF LIASION
Mark Hendrickson, City Forester, Staff Liaison, reported the following:
• Per David Anderson's request at the last meting, the website update is complete
and now reflects board members' correct names and addresses.

1 • Arbor Day will be celebrated January 18, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. at Lake Catherine.
2 Information will be provided at the January 2008 meeting. An Orange Geiger
3 tree will be planted.
4 • Tree Day at the Green Market will be observed January 20, 2008. Mike Kelly,
5 Parks Director, is requesting CAB volunteers be available from 8:00 a.m.
6 through 12:30 p.m. to assist with distributing trees.
7 • Donna Wisneski requested proper tools be available such as: scissors, tape, etc.
8 • Donna Wisneski stated that past tree posters were popular. She also discussed
9 fear of large mature trees with regard to storms.
10 • Mark Hendrickson suggested providing a list of trees that remain small.
11 • Mark Hendrickson introduced Kara Irwin, Growth Management Administrator,
12 Staff Liaison.
13 • At this time, 5:40 p.m., Donald Brown, 1st Alternate and Donald Krzan, 2nd
14 Alternate, were invited to join the remainder of the board on the dais.
15 • Jody Barnett, Council Member, Council Liaison, suggested that a watering
16 schedule be provided on Tree Day.
17 • Mark Hendrickson stated the South Florida Water Management District has a
18 watering schedule that includes new plantings that can be distributed.
19 • Mark Hendrickson stated that the City of Palm Beach Gardens has participated
20 in Arbor Day celebrations for at least 20 years and has had the Tree City USA
21 designation for that length of time.
22 • Tree Day at the Green Market is very popular. Tree seedlings are distributed
23 and larger plants, which are donated from nurseries, are raffled off. If the
24 winning person declines the plant, it is planted in the park.

26 VII. OLD BUSINESS
27 Donna Wisneski introduced review of the landscape plans for Palm Beach Gardens
28 High School and Gander Mountain, a commercial retail project at Interstate 95 and
29 Northlake Boulevard.
30 • Mark Hendrickson, City Forester, Staff Liaison stated that he can continue to
31 provide paper drawings or, if preferable, electronic files. Discussion ensued
32 about convenience and preference of file format.
33 • Mark Hendrickson presented and explained the landscape plan for Palm Beach
34 Gardens High School.
35 • Jody Barnett, Council Member, Council Liaison, explained Crime Prevention
36 Through Environmental Design (CPTED) standards. Discussion ensued about
37 trees and lighting.
38 • Mark Hendrickson explained the landscape plans for Gander Mountain. Mr.
39 Hendrickson noted that Gander Mountain requested no waivers and exceeded
40 landscape requirements.
41 • Albert Jacob inquired about the layout of Gander Mountain and the direction the
42 front door faces. Kara Irwin, explained the reasons.
43 • Donna Wisneski inquired if the site will actually look like the plans. Mark
44 Hendrickson explained the requirements that are in place to ensure performance.

1 • Donna Wisneski inquired about the traffic flow for Palm Beach Gardens High
2 School. Kara Irwin offered to meet with Ms. Wisneski and review the plans that
3 are in place.

5 VIII. NEW BUSINESS
6 • Donna Wisneski inquired if the board members will be available for the next
7 meeting, which is Wednesday, January 2, 2008.
8 • Albert Jacob inquired about irrigation and waster water because of misplaced or
9 broken sprinkler heads. Mark Hendrickson said he will check into the issue and
10 report back at the next meeting. Donna Wisneski stated that irrigation systems
11 and monitoring of wasted water should be included in the January 2, 2008
12 agenda

14 IX. COMMENTS BY THE PUBLIC
15 • Discussion ensued about the traffic flow from Legacy Place, which only allows
16 traffic on Alt Al A to go North.
17 • Frances Heaslip inquired was made about the Southampton Development. Kara
18 Irwin offered to discuss the project with her.
