I. CALL TO ORDER H. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE III. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Chair Valerie Fennon, Kendra Haywood (arrived late at 1:35 p.m.), Andrew Heim, Nicholas Russo, Matthew Zudans, First Alternate Jason Moraes (sitting in for Gregory Chetta) and Second Alternate Keith Ahronheim (sitting in for Vice Chair Kelly Rogers). ABSENT: Vice Chair Kelly Rogers and Gregory Chetta. ALSO PRESENT: Staff Liaison, Deputy Leisure Services Administrator, Daniel Prieto; Director of Public Services, Cory Wilder; Operations Manager Leisure Services, Monette Preston; Operations Manager Aquatics, Robin Cousins. IV. ADDITIONS, DELETIONS, MODIFICATIONS None. V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES from the November 16, 2020 meeting. Board Member Russo made a motion to approve the November 16, 2020 minutes. Board Member Heim seconded. Motion passed 6-0. (Board Member Kendra Haywood arrived after the vote was taken). VI. ITEMS BY STAFF LIAISON Deputy Leisure Services Administrator, Daniel Prieto gave an update on the reopening of Burns Road Community Center. Surveys were directly emailed to residents and advertised on social media inquiring on the type of recreational programming that would be of interest. Feedback results are currently being tabulated. A. "High 5" Statue Installation Deputy Leisure Services Administrator, Daniel Prieto shared details about the "High 5" Miracle League statue which was designed by George Lundeen and a result of the Art in Public Places program. The centralized location is adjacent to the Miracle League field and enhances the overall utilization of Gardens Park as it incorporates children with many different capabilities helping each other in a team spirit. Discussion ensued. B. Gardens District Park Spray Pad Expansion Deputy Leisure Services Administrator, Daniel Prieto presented an overview ofthe Gardens North County District Park Spray Pad expansion which is aesthetically tied into the existing spray pad and surrounded by synthetic turf. It includes less intensive features suitable for younger children and showcases vortex aquatic structures. Discussion ensued. VII. NEW BUSINESS A. 2020/2021 Park Proiects Director of Public Services, Cory Wilder shared updates on the current park projects under construction. Gardens Park Field 4 renovation will be finished in January 2021. Mirasol Park softball field renovation is scheduled for completion in May 2021. Gardens Park lighting retrofits will feature LED lights with remote control capability and will be done during the week of March 15 — 21, 2021. The Gardens Park ADA playground and bankshot basketball courts are currently being developed. The 600 square foot tennis maintenance shed is in the planning phase and will add more space for clay and supplies. The Russo shade structure will encompass the entire Joseph Russo Athletic PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING PAGE 1-25-2021 I Complex Playground providing for needed shade. Footers have been placed in the ground and 2 completion is scheduled for the end of February 2021. The Plant Drive pickleball restroom installation 3 is currently waiting on drawings and is expected this to be completed by summertime. Discussion 4 ensued. 5 VIII. OLD BUSINESS 6 A. Main Pool Renovation Update 7 Deputy Leisure Services Administrator, Daniel Prieto and Operations Manager Aquatics, 8 Robin Cousins presented the main pool renovation details which includes a dive well, zero -depth 9 beach entry for younger children, an upgraded gutter system, an improved pool surface, an increase 10 in pool size, upgraded filtration system and the addition of a bigger slide. The depth of the pool is 11 three feet and six inches which is optimal for children to learn to swim. Removeable character 12 floatables, two rock walls and an open flume slide allow for active structured play. The project is 13 slated to be finished in summer 2021. Discussion ensued. 14 B. Joseph Russo Athletic Complex Playground 15 Director of Public Services, Cory Wilder included the updated progress of the Joseph Russo 16 Athletic Complex Playground project at Gardens North County District Park in the 2020/2021 Park 17 Projects presentation. 18 IX. ADJOURNMENT Board Member Russo made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Second Alternate Ahronheim seconded. Motion passed 7-0. Chair Fennon adjourned the meeting at 2:14 p.m. The next meeting will be held on April 19, 2021. (The April 19, 2021 meeting was cancelled, and the next scheduled meeting will be held on September 27, 2021).
