HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes EAB 010902CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD JANUARY 9, 2002 The January 9, 2002, Regular meeting of the City of Palm Beach Gardens Education Advisory Board was called to order at 7:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Complex located at 1050o North Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The roll was called and the following members were found to be in attendance: Chair Wayne Anderson, John Gardner, Nancy Krause- Laurie, Leslie Millar, Jim Panoch, Ron Sadaka, and Charlotte Schiff. Student Julie Hackman was also present. City Council Liaison Vice Mayor Eric Jablin arrived at 7:15 p.m. Minutes of the last meeting were approved as submitted. Committee Reports Boundaries — There was no report. School Board Forum — It was reported that the School Board had not voted to cut summer school and was considering cuts in other items instead. Curriculum - Fact sheets on a community service hunger program were distributed and the program was explained. The Board was requested to analyze the program, supply volunteers, and approve this program to present to Dr. Orr to hopefully present it to the School Board to be taught county wide. Discussion ensued and questions from the Board were answered. The Board discussed how to get this information to Dr. Orr. It was decided to discuss this issue again after everyone had reviewed the information via computer. A motion was made (and passed) to bring the information to clubs (Key Club, Builders Club, National Honor Society, etc) to see if interest could be generated and let them run with it. Further information from School Board meetings was reported. Partnership —There was no report. Education Advisory Board Meeting Minutes 1/9/02 SAC Meeting Reports Nancy Krause- Laurie - A concept of having separate high schools using the same campus was described and discussed. Ron Sadaka — Brought more buckle -up signs for distribution and gave an update on the Recognition award. The board wants to present the Recognition Award at the Feb 7th City council meeting with City Council Vice Mayor Eric Jablin introducing Wayne Anderson and Leslie Millar to make the presentation. Leslie Millar - Buckle -up and school safety were discussed. Old Business There was no old business. New Business Vice Mayor Jablin discussed an organization (Lazy Boy) which did fund raising and wanted to use schools and students for a sleep -over at Gardens High. Mr. Jablin indicated he believed the schools should get the money that was raised. Adjournment There was no further business, therefore the meeting was adjourned. Page 2
