WEDNESDAY -JUNE 18, 2003
The meeting began at approximately 10:20 AM. Present were the following:
Kasey Booker (Christfellowship Church); Alma Reinke (St. Mark's Episcopal); Murtaza Kakli
(Muslim Community); Bulent Kastarlak (Islamic Cultural Centre); Carol Estrada (Church in the
Gardens); Pete Bergel, Janice Massie and Eileen Stephenson (City of Palm Beach Gardens).
• The minutes of May 21, 2003 were approved unanimously.
• Questions to address to Code Enforcement: a.) What kind of houses b.) location c.)
Criteria for the "Paint Your Heart Out" Campaign. Eileen Stephenson will obtain
information from Code Enforcement to see if any houses are in need of painting.
• Hoping to keep the project in the City of Palm Beach Gardens.
• Mentioned that the Solid Waste Authority has not received any applications for "Paint
Your Heart Out" Campaign in the last four years.
• The question was brought up as to how to approach a person regarding the painting of
their house or the condition of their house.
• Reviewed the Proposed Work Plan by Bulent Kastarlak. Discussed the needs of the plan.
All members were very pleased with the conciseness of the Proposed Work Plan.
• Suggested that a Board be established to "lead the way" for future projects.
• Suggested that an organizational chart be formed to place calls to proper personnel for
future situations.
• Suggested that the Board only choose beneficial projects to do.
• Suggested that a team member take on one project at a time and see the project
through till the end. After the project is completed, bring to the Board the results of the
project, where they may have gone wrong and offer suggestions for future projects, then
choose another project to complete.
• In need of a data base for resources. Must pool together resources.
• Would like at some point to bring religious and cultural education.
• Invited the youth of the community to become involved in the next meeting. A concern
brought to the table was that it would be during the school year. It was mentioned that
most student government teachers encourage this type of interaction. Age requirement
will be up to the discretion of the member.
• Lauren Furtado mentioned the agencies pooling together for a team program. (Article in
the Neighborhood Post, 06- 18 -03, attached).
• Next meeting, team leaders will be established and have project plans for the next
meeting.
• The next Gardens United Meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 201h at 10:00 AM
in Station #1.
• Meeting adjourned at 11:15 AM.

MISSION STATEMENT
Gardens United is an outreach program involving City employees, private entities, local
spiritual leaders, and volunteers for the purpose of bringing unity and mutual understanding to the
community and for providing assistance to residents in times of crisis.
The mission of Gardens United will be to:
♦ Bring the interfaith community together through community projects
♦ Meet the basic service needs of Palm Beach Gardens residents
♦ Build a network for community crisis response
OPERATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Gardens United is organized around secular and religious organizations having small
and large memberships serving their respective constituent residents in Palm Beach Gardens.
Participation is voluntary. The operational objectives of Gardens United are:
♦ Encourage participation by organizing beneficial projects of community interest
♦ Encourage interfaith communication among the leaders and their constituents
♦ Prepare an action program to mobilize and assist residents in times of crisis
WORK PLAN
Gardens United will achieve its operational objectives by taking action measures and
implementing projects through the cooperation of its member organizations and volunteers.
Step 1 - Appoint the Board of Gardens United as the governing body of the organization
Step 2 - Prepare an internal organization and establish channels of communication between its
Board and its member organizations and volunteers
Step 3 - Establish operational guidelines for executing and coordinating Board actions
Step 4 - Define and select projects of community interest and establish project teams
Step 5 - Define a Community Crisis Response organization and establish its role in assisting
City and County crisis management organizations
Step 6 - Identify specific actions and projects where volunteers will be needed
Step 7 - Recruit volunteers for each specific action taken and project selected
Step 8 - Train and maintain a Community Crisis Response team of volunteers on stand -by basis
Step 9 - Solicit operational funds and contributions from City, County, local businesses,
and members of the community
Step 10 — Review and revise the Work Plan periodically and make necessary changes

The initial Work Plan will be implemented through the actions and projects specified. To
the extent possible, the order of specific Steps of the Work Program will be followed. A flow chart
will be prepared showing the order and schedule of actions taken and projects underway. The
progress of actions and projects will be monitored by the Board and changes will be made as
needed. New actions and projects will be identified as the Work Plan is implemented.
