Present were the following: Present were: Anita Qualley (Catholic Charities of the Dioceses of Palm Beach); Bulent Kastarlak (Islamic Cultural Center); Murtaza Kakli (Muslim Community Center); Carol Estrada (Church in the Gardens); Kasey Booker (Christ Fellowship Church); Leo Abdella (Christ Fellowship Church); Howard and Eleanor Schweitzer (Temple Judea); Dr. Chuck Schneiderman (Temple Judea); Mayor Eric Jablin and Eileen Stephenson (City of Palm Beach Gardens). The meeting began at approximately 10:15 AM. • Welcomed the newest members of Gardens United, Dr. Chuck Schneiderman and Mr. And Mrs. Howard Schweitzer. • Mr. Bulent Kastarlak brought the new members up -to -speed regarding the goals of Gardens United. • Eileen Stephenson brought to the attention to the members the list of new streets recently annexed (via PAPA) into the City of Palm Beach Gardens that may be in need of house painting for the Paint Your Heart Out Campaign in October. She also shared her e -mail regarding the C.E.R.T. Program offered by the City of Palm Beach Gardens. Also brought to the attention of the members was a letter from Mr. And Mrs. James Wilkinson regarding their rodent infestation dilemma? The members advised that monetarily wise, Gardens United couldn't help them. Gardens United should address local disasters, for example the tornado that devastated the Gardens Walk Community. Gardens United will administer humanitarian aide. Gardens United intendeds to rally forces and assist people in dire needs, services are more important than money. • Dr. Schneiderman presented a proposal to Gardens United members regarding exchanging services and sermons on a monthly basis. • Dr. Schneiderman also extended an invitation to all Clergy and officers to attend the open house of their new Temple location, 4311 Hood Road in the Spring of 2004. • Mayor Jablin advised that the City has recently purchased the Reverse 911 System and can get messages out to the public regarding Gardens United. • It was suggested that there be a contact person established to initiate a plan of action in case of such a disaster. It was determined that the Red Cross does not step in until contacted on a national level. • It was suggested that Gardens United be a servant tool to Fire Rescue. • Gardens United Members will have Mayor Eric Jablin will be the liaison between Gardens United and the City of Palm Beach Gardens. C: \Downloads \GU082003.doc • Intend on comprising a list of people who can render services in cases of emergencies. Also, Gardens United does not want this committee to seem that of religious groups only, they want to get their message to all residents in the City who may not attend any Houses of Worship. It was suggested that a link be established on the City web site to attract all citizens of Palm Beach Gardens. • It was recognized that members must meet consistently. There is a need to establish structure in the organization. Not only should we address disasters and humanitarian aide, also, address our children in the community. • Gardens United needs to be run as a "business ". • A question brought up, should Gardens United become a 5013 @? Mayor Jablin will address that question to the Finance Director, Allan Owens. • Three people should sit on the board, a chairperson, finance person and a secretary. • The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17th @ 10:00 AM in the Police Department Community Room. • Meeting adjourned at 11:45 AM. Dr. Chuck Schneiderman's Proposal Presented to Gardens United on Wednesday, August 20, 2003. Consider furthering the interfaith Community Alliance in Palm Beach Gardens by inviting all Clergy and Officer of all Palm Beach Gardens Churches, Temples and Mosques to an (Annual) interfaith Community Alliance Convention to discus common goals (brotherhood, faith and charity) and to promote mutual understanding of faith in Palm Beach Gardens by an exchange of services and sermons on a rotational monthly basis.
