September 14, 2005
The Education Advisory Committee met on September 14, 2005. The meeting was called
to order at 6:12 P.M. in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Complex, located at
10500 North Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and opened with the Pledge of
Allegiance.
L ROLL CALL
Members Present: Wayne Anderson, Ed Gruvman, Percy Kavasmaneck, Ron Sadaka,
Michale Molenda
Members Absent: Ava Sugar
Also present: Charlotte Presensky, Jennifer Holdt, Representatives from PBCC and FAU
and Councilmember David Levy
H. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The Committee approved the Minutes from the August 2005 meeting in a 5 -0 Vote.
III.OLD BUSINESS
School Reports
Ron Sadaka discussed the SAC report and the Budget for the Dreyfoos School of the
Arts. She stated that the school is trying to host 25 kids and their families that were
displaced from Hurricane Katrina.
Ed Gruvman announced that Dunkin Middle School is looking for paraprofessionals to
help in school especially for handicap students.
Wayne Anderson stated that the SAC at Allamanda elementary they went over scores
from last year's FACT and voted for new officers.
Wayne Anderson stated that at the Timber Trace SAC, they went over the bylaws. He
also reported that they lost several teachers because enrollment went down.
At the Grove Park Elementary SAC they discussed the over purpose of SAC and eelected
their officers.
IV. NEW BUSINESS
Public Forum
Charlotte introduced the representatives from Palm Beach Community College and
Florida Atlantic University. Each representative presented a history of the schools, the
number of students that attend the number of staff at each school, the locations of their
campus, and a description of all the programs they offer.
V. COMMENTS BY THE BOARD
The board was very grateful to the schools for coming and making the presentations.
There were questions about dual enrollment for high school students and about working
with the schools to help get the word out about the wonderful programs they have to offer
Charlotte thanked everyone for coming and said the City is open to partnering with the
schools.
VI. ADJOURNMENT
There being not further business to discuss the meeting adjourned at 7:53 PM
