II. STAFF LIAISON REPORT Brad went over the recent projects that came before this board and were recently approved by City Council. III. OLD BUSINESS Art in Public Places Postcard Book Series Dolores Key gave the board a copy of the AIPP Postcard Book Series. She explained the background of why the postcards were created. She stated that the postcards reflect the support of art in public places by not only the City, but also by local businesses. The Board thanked Dolores for putting together the beautiful book. Dolores is hoping that she will be able to take donations or sell the postcard books at the Green Market. In addition, she will be giving them out to businesses that show an interest possibly opening in the City. Gardens Station — Workshop with Lucy Keshavarz Lucy Keshavarz of The Art and Culture Group gave a Power Point Presentation on Gardens Station. Lucy discussed the background and location of the project, and went over the site plan. She discussed the timeline of the project including her last visit to this board on April 19, 2005. She also went over the budget and showed pictures of the art and an example of the finish and texture. After some discussion the board agreed that the benches are too small for the size of the building. They would also like to see the art that is being planed for the companion building to make sure it is going to work together and would also like to see what the building is going to look like. Charles also suggested seeing the colors of the buildings before approving the art to make sure there is a fit. Additional Old Business Myra Davis stated that she is not happy with the location of the art at the Benjamin school. She has driven by several times and cannot see the art from the road. Linda Oliver stated that the piece is not visible from the road and you have to turn into the driveway of the Benjamin School in order to see the art. Myra stated that she feels the art should have been placed in a more visible location. There was discussion about being more careful about art placement in the future. NEW BUSINESS Discussion of Indoor Public Art Lucy Keshavz asked for clarification regarding the issue of putting art on the inside of a building as opposed to the outside. Linda Oliver acknowledged that there is an ordinance that states that public art needs to be on the outside of a facility. Linda added that this cannot be changed without a new ordinance. Additional New Business There was discussion among the board regarding using the same artist for too many projects throughout the City. The board would like to see different artists being used instead of using the same artist for many projects. Linda Oliver asked Charles for an update on the Ordinance that is being drafted that will allow the Art in Public Places Board to require developers to bring in several artists instead of just brining in one for the Board's consideration. Charles said the attorney is working on the Ordinance, but it will still be a few months before the draft will be ready for the board to see. Lee Bickford asked about the Two Marlins art piece that Catalfumo is bringing before City Council. Brad Weisman stated that the proposed art is going before City Council at January 19, 2006 meeting and he will bring them an update at their next meeting. Charles Wu informed the Board that the Hometown News is doing an article on the Art in Public Places program in the City. 1. i IL V.
