HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes RAB 052107 - Part 2e 4 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING May 21, 2007 MINUTES The Regular Meeting of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board of the City of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, was called to order at 7:49 P.M. in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Complex, 10500 North Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. 1. ROLL CALL: Present: Robert Premuroso, Chair Tory Buckley, Vice Chair Dr. Carolyn Chaplik Philip Milton Ernest Volonte Mary Anne Hedrick Tim Frohling, I" Alternate Arnie Schneider, 2nd Alternate Absent: Wendy Walker Also present: David Levy, Vice Mayor, Council Liaison Charlotte Presensky, Interim Development Director, Staff Liaison; Tim Kasher, Interim Recreation Director, Alternate Staff Liaison; Mike Kelly, Parks Director 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes for the meeting of April 16, 2007, were approved. 3. ITEMS BY STAFF LIAISON: Charlotte Presensky, Interim Development Director, Staff Liaison, spoke about setting up a workshop for the Public Environment Master Plan. The Board decided this would be held at the June 18, 2007, meeting and this would be the only item on the agenda. The Board was also given an update on the Lakeside Art Project. The Art in Public Places Board will decide on either a call to artists or they will commission a piece by a specific artist. This will be discussed at their next meeting and an update will be provided thereafter. 4. COMMENTS BY COUNCIL LIAISON: David Levy, Vice Mayor, Council Liaison, stated that he has been asked by residents of the community when the PGA Park redevelopment will be complete. He stated that he advised the residents that the process is underway and should be great once it is completed. Parks and Recreation Board Advisory Meeting Minutes 052107 Page 1 0 2 5. OLD BUSINESS: 3 There was no business to discuss. 5 6. NEW BUSINESS: 6 There was no business to discuss. 8 7. PARKS UPDATE: 9 Mike Kelly, Parks Director, provided an update. The Great American Cleanup was a success 10 at Plant Drive Park. Lilac Park is being very well- attended along with the dog park. The sod 11 has been placed in Lilac Park and the community is very happy with the look of the park. 12 The field at Plant Drive Park is being reconfigured. The equipment has been removed and the 13 turf will arrive within one month. Mike Kelly stated that he attended a meeting today at 14 South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and a new plan was devised to allow 15 for the watering of the fields three days per week. This will save the fields which is great 16 news for the City. 17 18 8. RECREATION UPDATE: 19 Tim Kasher, Interim Recreation Director, Alternate Staff Liaison, provided an update to the 20 Board on the Burns Road Playground. He stated that he is trying to have this project 21 completed by June 11, 2007, when camp starts. The main pool had new filters installed and 22 should be ready to reopen within one week's time. The Memorial Day party will take place 23 at the pool at 10:00 a.m. There will be a presentation at 9:30 a.m. at the Burns Road 24 Community Center Flagpole to honor the veterans. Camp starts on June 11, 2007, and a Flag 25 Day Celebration will be held on June 14, 2007, at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall Plaza. On June 27, 26 2007, the City will have its 48th Birthday Celebration at Lakeside Center at 6:00 p.m. On July 27 18, 2007, Sandhill Crane Access Park will hold its ribbon - cutting ceremony. 28 29 9. GOLF UPDATE: 3o Tim Kasher, filling in for Dan Reidy who was not present, gave the update. Irrigation use per 31 the (SFWMD) South Florida Water Management District has been cut back to 45% of 32 normal use, all mandates are being complied with and the greens were aerated last week. 33 Discounted rates are in effect until May 23, 2007. Requests for proposals for food and 34 beverages have been received and are currently being reviewed. JJ &G Engineering Company 35 conducted a site visit to evaluate the sewer line installation and they are now in the process of 36 engineering the project. 37 38 10.
