HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes B&E 010500CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS BEAUTIFICATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE JANUARY 5, 2000 The January 5, 2000, Regular meeting of the City of Palm Beach Gardens Education Advisory Board was called to order at 5:36 P.M. in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Complex located at 10500 North Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The roll was called and the following members were found to be in attendance: Chair Joe Royals, Jeffrey Renault, Connie Premuroso, Sally Wilks, and Donna Wisneski. The minutes of the December 1, 1999 meeting were approved with changes as noted in the minutes. Old Business A) Beautification Award and Arbor Day - Photographs taken at these two events were passed around for viewing. City Forester Mark Hendrickson reported on the condition of trees which had been moved. B) Environmental Project Field Trip - January 9, 2000 Because of scheduling conflicts, the date for the field trip was changed to Sunday, January 16. New Business A) Public Works Director Bob Patty addressed concerns regarding maintenance of grass growing up in the sidewalks all over the City, and explained that an outside contractor was being retained for maintenance of all roadways for which the City was responsible. Landscaping along the FEC railroad was discussed. Requests to DOT and Palm Beach County for more maintenance were discussed. Status of plans for the new City sign were reviewed by Mr. Patty, as well as maintenance of the temporary fencing which had been installed for use until the permanent concrete noise barrier along I -95 was installed. Mr. Patty explained the scope of work performed by the Public Works Department. The current canal restoration was discussed, for which carp were being used to control aquatic City of Palm Beach Gardens Beautification and Environmental Committee January 5, 2000 Page 2 vegetation. Removing mangroves from the man-made ditch at Prosperity Farms and Burns Road near the Oaks was discussed. It was recommended that the Committee contact the City Manager requesting assets be increased so that more could be accomplished. B) City Forester Hendrickson reported the Palm Beach Gardens Women's Club planned to hold Arbor Day on January 18, 2000 and to donate a tree to be planted at Lake Catherine, which the Committee was invited to attend. C) Mr. Hendrickson reported that the Tree City USA Recertification Application was sent on January 23, 1999. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.
