HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes B&E 050300Beautification and Environmental Committee Summary Notes Wednesday, May 3, 2000 The May 3, 2000, regular meeting of the PBG B &E Committee has called to order by Joe Royals at 5:40 P.M. in the Growth Management meeting room of the new Municipal Complex located at 10500 North Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The following members were in attendance: Joe Royals, Jeff Renault, Betty Marks, Connie Premuroso, Sally Wilks, Jack Hughs and Donna Wisneski. City Staff Liaison Mark Hendrickson were present. [There was no recorder. The following summary was taken from Mark Hendrickson's notes.] Approval of Minutes Committee members made the following changes to the April 5, 2000 minutes: 1. First paragraph - change Education Advisory Board to B& E Committee 2. First paragraph under New Business — change the name Bettie Marks to Sandra Foland 3. Correct the last name spelling of Hendrickson throughout the minutes A motion to approve the April 5, 2000 minutes was made and seconded. Motion unanimously carried. Mark Hendrickson introduced City Manager Nabar E. Martinez. The Committee welcomed Mr. Martinez. Mr. Martinez discussed his three -year plan to beautify the City. He began by telling the Committee about his City tour in February with all the Department Heads, where he pointed out some areas of the City that needed improvements. Since then, work had begun to beautify MacArthur Boulevard around the Banyan tree, Lake Catherine Park improvements had begun, a landscape plan had been generated for Riverside Drive canal improvements, and the City Hall complex landscape plan is being revised. The Committee asked Mr. Martinez to look into the status of the City's Gateway signs and B & E Committee "Golf shirts ". Mr. Martinez stated that was interested in attending another meeting in the future. The Committee thanked him taking time with them and his apparent enthusiasm of City beautification. Old Business Mark Hendrickson advised the Committee that the Tree Florida 2000 Award entry deadline had pasted. He did not have the time to bring the Committee any material or ideas to submit for an award. He suggested trying next year. New Business Mark Hendrickson tells the Committee that the City had received Tree City USA recertification for 1999, and they needed to start thinking about this year's Arbor Day celebration. Jack Hughes asks why the B & E Committee is not reviewing landscape plans and beautification projects per Section 2 -104 of the Land Development Regulations. The Committee members discussed this issue at length. They voted to request Staff Liaison Hendrickson to generate a letter to the City Council and City Manager to direct City staff to have them as part of the approval process for all public projects involving landscaping. Mark Hendrickson said he would have the City Hall Complex landscape plans at the next meeting. Motion to adjourn was made and seconded. Meeting ended around 6:55 p.m. The next meeting will be June 7, 2000.
