1. First paragraph - change Education Advisory Board to B& E Committee
2. First paragraph under New Business — change the name Bettie Marks to
Sandra Foland
3. Correct the last name spelling of Hendrickson throughout the minutes
A motion to approve the April 5, 2000 minutes was made and seconded.
Motion unanimously carried.
Mark Hendrickson introduced City Manager Nabar E. Martinez.
The Committee welcomed Mr. Martinez. Mr. Martinez discussed his three -year
plan to beautify the City. He began by telling the Committee about his City
tour in February with all the Department Heads, where he pointed out some
areas of the City that needed improvements. Since then, work had begun to
beautify MacArthur Boulevard around the Banyan tree, Lake Catherine Park
improvements had begun, a landscape plan had been generated for Riverside
Drive canal improvements, and the City Hall complex landscape plan is being
revised.
The Committee asked Mr. Martinez to look into the status of the City's
Gateway signs and B & E Committee "Golf shirts ". Mr. Martinez stated that
was interested in attending another meeting in the future. The Committee
thanked him taking time with them and his apparent enthusiasm of City
beautification.
Old Business
Mark Hendrickson advised the Committee that the Tree Florida 2000 Award
entry deadline had pasted. He did not have the time to bring the Committee
any material or ideas to submit for an award. He suggested trying next year.
New Business
Mark Hendrickson tells the Committee that the City had received Tree City
USA recertification for 1999, and they needed to start thinking about this
year's Arbor Day celebration.
Jack Hughes asks why the B & E Committee is not reviewing landscape plans
and beautification projects per Section 2 -104 of the Land Development
Regulations. The Committee members discussed this issue at length. They
voted to request Staff Liaison Hendrickson to generate a letter to the City
Council and City Manager to direct City staff to have them as part of the
approval process for all public projects involving landscaping.
Mark Hendrickson said he would have the City Hall Complex landscape plans
at the next meeting.
Motion to adjourn was made and seconded. Meeting ended around 6:55 p.m.
The next meeting will be June 7, 2000.
