BEAUTIFICATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE
AUGUST 2, 2000
The August 2, 2000, Regular meeting of the City ofPalm Beach Gardens Beautification
and Environmental Committee was called to order at 5:30 F.M. in the Council
Chambers of the Municipal Complex located at 10500 North Military Trail, Palm
Beach Gardens, Florida.
The roll was called and the following members were found to be in attendance: Connie
Premuroso, Sally Wilks, Jack Hughes, and Donna Wisneski. City Council Liaison
David Clark, who arrived at 5:50 p.m., and Mark Hendrickson, City Forester, were
also present.
The minutes of the July 5, 2000 meeting were .approved as submitted.
Old Business
There was no old business to come before the Committee.
New Business
Beautification Awards:
The location of the beautification sign was discussed since it was no longer in front of
the Shell Station. Other candidates for the award were discussed. The Oaks Center
commercial development was requested to be. added to the list for consideration. A
comment was made that the plan had been to alternate commercial and residential
recipients. A motion was made, seconded, and carried by 4-0 vote to _present the award
to the Gardens of Woodberry Homeowners Association. Bettie Marks abstained from
voting since she was a resident of Gardens of Woodberry. Mr. Hendrickson noted that
the interior plantings at The Oaks Center had been done by the developer; however, the
landscaping beautification along Prosperity Farms Road had been done by the County
at a cost of $58,000. Mr. Hendrickson explained how the City, the Developer, and the

County, had worked together on this landscaping, that County Commissioner Karen
Marcus had been instrumental in providing funding, and DiVosta, the developer, had
agreed to maintain the plantings. Mr. Hendrickson suggested a possible future joint
award for this beautification.

Council Liaison David Clark arrived at this .point in the meeting at 5:50 p.m.
Landscape maintenance of City property was discussed. A maintenance book and/or
seminar for commercial properties was suggested and discussed. It was suggested that
the City staff be told the Beautification Committee had concerns regarding landscape
maintenance, which the Public Works Department could then decide how to address.
The fountain next to the Police Department was discussed and concern was expressed
that the fountain had been turned off.
Arbor Day was discussed Mr_ Hendrickson requested that the Committee decide which
roadways they would lice beautified. Roadways mentioned were Bums Road across
from Public Works, Military Trail-, and MacArthur Boulevard. The City Forester
reported that a master plan for roadway development was being created, and this
Committee should decide the priority locations and planting palettes to be used. The
Arbor Day ceremony was scheduled for 10 a.m. on November 11, 2000.
