Chair Anderson reported Area 5 had provided information on FCAT and State and
County benchmarks which he had sent to Ms. Schiff, who had planned to make a
report; however, she was sick and unable to attend. Chair Anderson announced he
would have copies of the information sent to everyone so that this could be discussed
at the next meeting.
Mr. Jablin suggested that the Board create a list of criticisms of the "A" school bonus
program with alternatives solutions, and request the City Council to include these
criticisms and solutions in a Resolution to be sent to the Governor, and also to ask the
other municipalities in the County to look at the Resolution and also send it to the
Governor.
Mr. Jablin reported the Forum of Legislative Candidates Committee had not met
• during the past month but would become active during the spring and summer. Chair
Anderson stated this item would be placed on the March meeting agenda.
Other items in progress were discussed. During discussion of the voucher system ,
Mr. Panoch explained why he believed the basic principles of this system were wrong.
New Business
Mr. Jablin questioned how the City could get involved in School Board boundaries.
Chair Anderson suggested an agenda be obtained of the ABC Committee meetings so
that if there was an item with which the Educational Advisory Board disagreed they
could communicate their opinion to the Committee with an alternative solution.
George Mastics announced that he would be stepping down because of his busy
schedule, and stated he would miss being a member of the Board.
The next meeting was announced for January 12, 2000.
