Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens. Members present included: Jim Maynor, Co- chairperson, Charles Torrey, Tory Buckley, Bette Bates, Alt., Susan Miller, Director /Parks and Recreation, Brian McLaughlin, Assistant Director /Parks and • Recreation, Vice Mayor Lauren Furtado. Not present: Susie Kendall, Chairperson Mike Simon, Pam Didio, Chris Holmes, Alt., In the absence of Susie Kendall, Chairperson, Jim Maynor, Co- chairperson, called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. I APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: *The minutes from the February 2, 1999 meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board were approved as written. II DIRECTOR'S REPORT: *Introduction of David Barth of Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin Lopez and Rinehart *David Barth presented visuals of the Urban Mall Park Concept for open spaces within the 420,000 sq. ft. Forbes mall project including primary objectives of providing public gathering places with downtown atmosphere *Display boards with photographs included Cranes Roost, Celebration, Riverwalk along with Forbes' mall concept *Design elements discussed including streets, community buildings, neighborhoods, town center, environment and parks *Mixed use already exists in the mall area with offices, public retail and residential III CONCERNS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: *Where do we want to go with this urban mall park concept? A special meeting will be held in two weeks. *Board congratulated Vice Mayor Lauren Furtado on her re- election. WINNER OF THE NATIONAL GOLD MEDAL AWARD *Vice Mayor Lauren Furtado is donating funds from her campaign to softball and roller hockey • programs. IV ADJOURNMENT: *The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 P.M. These elements include: • Connections from the park to surrounding land uses (residential, commercial, office areas) via a system of narrow public streets, sidewalks and bike paths. Connections through private parking lots are not sufficient. • Views to the lake and park entrances from the surrounding streets • Access to public transit • A mix of uses around the lake, including office, residential, retail and first floor shops, restaurants and cafes • Public access to the park directly from adjacent public streets; access through private shops and parking lots is not sufficient • An interactive playground and tot lot • Attractive site furnishings and public art • An interactive fountain a An amphitheater and/or public gathering space T . *Vice Mayor Lauren Furtado is donating funds from her campaign to softball and roller hockey programs.
