Connie Premuroso called the meeting to order at 5:40 P.M. The following members
were in attendance: Jeff Renault, Joe Royals, Sally Wilks, Connie Premuroso, and
Audrey Marton, Baqir Murtaza Syed(late arrival). City Staff Liaison Mark
Hendrickson was also present.
There were no minutes for July 1, 1998 to approve.
Under "Items by Staff Liaison ",Mark did not have any items, but asked if there was
any questions from the members that he could respond too. Jeff asked about the
"Letter of Support" the committee signed. Mark advised that it was made part of the
Beautiful Palm Beaches (BPB) Grant Application for the beautification of Alt. A -1 -A.
The City should know if we got the grant within a few months. Mark also stated that
the City got an ISTEA - FDOT Grant 100% drawings for the area between RCA
Boulevard and Burns Road on the west side of Alt. A -1-A, just north of the BPB
grant area. He hopes that these areas will be landscaped within the next year.
Both plans are part of a master plan. Mark briefly discussed a new project proposed
on the east side of Alt. A -1-A, and that he had mentioned to them that the City would
be looking at the developer to landscape the medians within Alt. A -1 -A, similar the
Gardens East Apartments, and Burns Road.
Audrey asked about the wall that is going up west of 1 -95 and south of Northlake
Boulevard, because it looks bad. Mark explained that the wall is not in the City. She
asked if it will be landscaped. Mark did not know, but if they do what has been done
in the south end of the County, it should be painted and landscaped. The wall goes
adjacent to residential areas to reduce the noise of 1 -95.
Connie asked who just landscaped the median on Northlake Boulevard. Mark
advised that it was Ballenisles Country Club. Woodbine in Riviera Beach did the
medians on Military Trail south of Northlake.
Joe asked when we will get our first gateway sign. Mark said it is in the works. The
City is also trying to finish the beautification grant project that adds more
landscaping to the medians of Military Trail. Mark is still working on the plans to
have the Arbor Day tree planting in the Fairchild Garden Avenue median that leads
to the Post Office.
Under old business, Connie and Mark talk about the field trip on July 12, 1998 in
which the Committee members looked at the Sports Authority, Northcorp Center, the
Gardens Court (Medical Mall), Toys -R -Us, Harbor Financial Center and Golden Bear
Plaza. Mark and Sally described the trip briefly for the members that were not in
attendance. General discussion occurred with everyone's input. Sally makes the
motion to give the Golden Bear Plaza the Beautification Award for a commercial
building. Motion was seconded. The motion was approved unanimously.
Under new business, Connie asked about the application for the environmental
award. Mark apologizes, and states it is lost on someone's desk. He is going to
have to re -route that memo. It needs to go to City Council sometime.
A short discussion about the new City Hall Complex occurred. Mark asked the
Committee to submit names of people who would like to serve on the Committee to
the Clerks office. Audrey had done some people.
Dr. Syed arrives, and Mark advises him that the Committee voted to give Golden
Bear Plaza the Beautification Award. Baquir agreed with the decision.
The next meeting will be September 2, 1998.
Adjournment at 6:20 PM.
