Susan Wood called the meeting to order at 5:40 P.M. The following members were
in attendance: Susan Wood, Jeff Renault, Bettie Marks, Sally Wilks, Connie
Premuroso, and Audrey Marton. Councilman David Clark and City Staff Liaison
Mark Hendrickson were also present.
Susan asked for approval of the May 6, 1998 B & E Committee meeting minutes.
Corrections to the minutes where noted as follows:
• Add Connie Premuroso to the attendance list;
• Change every to ever on the 23`d line, 1St page;
• Change PBC to PBG on the 27th line, 1St page;
• Change someone to Connie on the 31St line, 2 "d page.
Connie suggested the Committee consider of the first median south on Fairchild
Gardens Avenue, as one goes to the Post Office, as a good spot to beautify.
The motion was made to approve the minutes, as changed, it was seconded and
passed.
David Clark provided information about a developer proposing a project in the
Frenchman's Creek Marina area that said they are willing to provide an area for a
City Gateway sign.
Mark advised that he was preparing a memo for the City Manager to address the
Environmental Award Application in front of City Council. Mark has also talked to
Beth Ingold about the best way to advertize the award. It would be to costly to send
it out to everyone, so a notice about the award will be printed up in various
newsletters. Jeff asked if there would be a paragraph stating who to contact and
where the applications can be picked up. Mark affirmed that was the direction he
was proceeding.
Mark announced that the City Manage has given the go ahead to Public Works to
get bids out to build the Gateway sign at PGA Boulevard and the Turnpike. Public
Works Department has funding for two signs, the second sign is one at City Centre
at the intersection of PGA Boulevard and US 1. Susan ask what is going to happen
to the mock sign. Mark said it could go at PGA and Military with City Council's
blessing or be stored. Mark asked direction from the Committee.
Susan asked if there was anything in the works as far as new annexations, in the
context that the City's boundaries may change from what the Committee had
reviewed on year ago. David Clark was not aware of any significant changes. Mark
mentioned the very little Soverel Harbor site should come in by the end of the year.
A discussion of its location occurred. Other than annexing some small sites to infill
irregular pockets around the City, the north, south, east and west boundaries should
not change.
Under old business, Susan began the discussion on the 1998 Arbor Day site. Mark
tells the Committee that he will not be able to conduct the planned field trip on June
14, 1998. Sally thinks Connies idea for Fairchild Gardens Avenue median is a good
one. Mark said he will ask Bobbie and PW if it will be OK. Sally suggests planting
Loquat trees. Connie suggests asking for three trees. Mark advises the Committee
that the City nursery will no longer be available for City use after October of this
year. 'rhe Committee also wants some kind of ground cover under the trees.
The Committee reschedules the field trip for July 12, 1998 at 2 P.M.
The new business discussion about nominations for the next Beautification Award
was tabled. Mark stated that Sue Miller thought it would be a good idea to get
letters of support for the Frenchman's Forest nature center. Mark passed around a
draft letter for the Committee's review. Sally talked about her trip to the Nature
Center in the West Palm Beach Water Catchment Area. Bettie makes a motion to
indorse the support letter. It was seconded, no discussion, and was approved by
everyone. The members present signed the support letter, and Mark will get up
with everyone else.
Susan asked if their was anything that could be done about the Hood Road
extension though Frenchman's Forest. Mark suggested talking to the County
Commissioners or a discussion about future road right -of -ways with Councilwoman
Furtado. This was not the forum.
Susan said there are weeds in the sidewalks on Burns Road again. Mark asked
Susan to explain about the little zoning correction that she helped the City find. We
have found that their is a residential duplex property on Kidd Lane right behind the
small office building on PGA Boulevard that is in the Palm Beach Gardens city limit.
The City maps will be corrected to show this site is residential and not commercial.
Connie asked about who owns the roads in PGA National because their are shrubs
blocking vehicle visibility. Mark told her to contact the POA.
The next meeting will be July 1, 1998.
Adjournment at 6:35 PM.
