PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
OCTOBER 6, 1998
The City of Palm Beach Gardens Parks and Recreation Advisory Board met Tuesday, October 6,
1998 at 8:45 P.M. at Council Chambers, 10500 N. Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens.
Members present included: Susie Kendall, Chairperson, Jim Maynor, Mike Simon, Bette Bates,
Alt., Susan Miller, Director/Parks and Recreation, and Brian McLaughlin, Assistant
Director/Parks and Recreation, Vice Mayor Lauren Furtado. Not present: Pam Didio, Ed Oliver,
Charles Torrey, Chris Holmes, Alt.
I APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES:
*It was noted that the minutes from the April 7, 1998 meeting of the Parks and Recreation
Advisory Board were approved as written in conjunction with the approval of the minutes of the
August 20, 1998 Joint Workshop City Council and the Neighborhood Task Force.
II PROJECT REPORT
*New tennis facility on schedule for January, 1999 opening. LBFH sends progress reports
regularly. Reports forwarded to tennis committee members.
*Gardens Park on schedule for January, 1999 opening. Land is being fumigated now and
will be sprigged next week.
*Grant writer working on Gardens Park Sports Complex $100,000 FRDAP grant. Aerial
photograph passed around for all to see. Gardens Park has all criteria for application to be
accepted; fields, restrooms, tot lot and soccer facility make park acceptable for FRDAP grant.
This grant should be approved by summer of `99. Advisory Board gave unanimous approval for
department seeking this grant for Gardens Park Sports Complex project.
*District Park design presented; 115 acres with four -year lease option.
*Dennis Eschelman, Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Director and
Commissioner Karen Marcus will earmark bond revenue for district park acquisition.
*Location of District Park coincides with city's vision from ten years ago.
*Initially, Central Boulevard will be the only access road for District Park, but another
access road is planned for the future.

• III DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
PARKS AND RECREATION
*Next major project could be the Gardens Mall site. Conceptual plan visual needed. This
project has been presented with retail, restaurants and open spaces.
IV BUSINESS REPORT:
*Leaking roof at Riverside Community Center repair budgeted for 2002.
*Delaying roof repair at Riverside Community Center is a concern.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
