Summary Notes
Wednesday, November 5, 1997
Jeff Renault called the meeting to order at 6:05 P.M. The following members were
in attendance: Jeff Renault, Susan Wood, Joe Royals, and Sally Wilks. City staff
Liaison Mark Hendrickson was also present.
The September 3, 1997 B & E Committee meeting minutes were approved.
Mark Hendrickson advised the Committee that their request for funding a
Beautification Award's sign was approved. There is $400.00 for a scaled down
version of the City's "Gateway" sign that would have "Beautification and
Environmental Award" printed along the top bar. He stated that feed back from City
Council was very positive concerning the beautification awards. The City Manager
would like more details about the award's criteria. Mark also suggested that, in the
future, the Committee may want to also include projects that have environmental
merit.
The Committee made a motion and approved to allow Mark to begin the sign
acquisition.
Jeff Renault suggests that the members pick the top projects now, and at the
December meeting the committee can select the winner. A discussion about the
different sites began with Sally Wilks stating the Committee has three projects now,
which includes the Mall, Frenchmans Creek and Ballenlsles. A discussion about the
criteria the members will use started and then shifted to what the Mall (Regional
Center) looks like from PGA Boulevard. Jeff suggests adding more to the list of
candidates, rather than critiquing each project. Sally Wilks mentions the Harbor
financial Center (Carmines corner of PGA and Prosperity Farms Road) as looking
pretty. Jeff Renault mentions PGA National as historically being a good looking site.
Joe Royals mentions Town Oaks with there new sign and large Oak trees as a good
site. The Committee thought that part of The Oaks community was nice, but not
enough to meet the criteria due to some maintenance issues. Jeff concludes the
discussion by suggesting the members go out and look at the five sites based on the
criteria. The first selection will be at next month's meeting.
Susan Wood interjects her thought that Lake Catherine is a pretty community. The
committee talks about the best Christmas light displays in the City.
Mark asked who will be attending the Arbor Day celebration on November 21 at
10:00 am. Susan Wood and Sally Wilks will be out of town. Mark advises the
Committee that the palm planting has been changed to four Oak trees. B & E
Committee members should be there, if possible. Bobbie Herakovich and Joe
Russo may be there along with the new Principal Don Houghahan. The nev6media
is receiving a news release. Three trees will already be planted, and we will do the
last planting. Jeff Renault said he could be there. Joe Royals ask to be called to
remind him.
The next meeting will be December 3, 1997.
Adjournment at 6:40 pm.
