Members present included Chairman Jeff Sabin, Co- Chairman John Elsner, Ronnye Sands, Susan Miller, Director/Parks and Recreation, Brian McLaughlin, Superintendent/Parks and Recreation, Vice Mayor Lauren Furtado. Not present: Sandy Gottlieb, Bette Bates, David Panaia, Y.A.A. President. Joanne Steele arrived as the meeting was being adjourned due to another commitment. I APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: *The minutes from the October8th meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board could not be approved since there was no quorum. II PROJECT REPORT *Klock soccer facility has been sprigged, fenced, parking lot is finished and a ceremony isb planned for January, 1997, *PGA adult softball fields will be completed for January, 1997. *Oaks Park tennis courts and lights will be completed before January, 1997. *Vice Mayor Lauren Furtado recommended bathrooms and water fountain be installed at Oaks Park; residents are complaining about the lack of these facilities. III DIRECTOR'S REPORT: *Hoe Down at PGA National Park, in spite of the rain, was a hugh success. *Winter Newsletter will be in the mail Thursday with resident registration beginning on Monday, November 18th. *Recycling program in the city has been inadequate. Dick Holiday from Public Works is working on developing this program. *Vice Mayor Lauren Furtado supports the plan for relocating the city tennis courts to the Golf Digest property and negotiations are continuing. *Howell Lane property has never been designated for recreational use, but recommendations from the board for its development could one day be a reality like the Klock project. WINNER OF THE NATIONAL GOLD MEDAL AWARD �1 *Grant program for after school care, focus changes each year; last year was "latch key" this year is drug intervention. Teen center continues its drop in program with Wednesday Bike Nite as the biggest attraction. *Video entitled `Benefits of Parks and Recreation" was not shown as scheduled. Will be on the agenda for January, 1997. IV BUSINESS REPORT: *Park ordinances were reviewed by city attorney and approved. Vice Mayor Lauren Furtado would like to have mandatory drug screening and background checks for everyone who is involved in any capacity working with children in any city building, field, sponsored activity that is related to the city in any way. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.
