MINUTES
PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
APRIL 4, 1995
The City of Palm Beach Gardens Parks and Recreation Advisory Board met Tuesday, April 4,
1995 at 7:30 P.M. at the Riverside Community Center.
Members present included Chairman Jeff Sabin, John Elsner, Ronnye Sands, Sandy Gottlieb, Joe
Kuveikis, Don Babin, Y.A.A. President, Susan Miller, Director/Parks and Recreation, Brian
McLaughlin, Superintendent/Recreation, and Dick Cameron, Superintendent/Parks. Not present:
Bette Bates, Joanne Steele, Rick DeKeyser, Y.A.A. Vice President, and Councilman Liaison.
I APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES:
*The minutes from the March 7, 1995 meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory
Board were approved as written.
II DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
RECREATION
*Susan Miller attended the March 29th meeting of the Y.A.A. to give them an idea of the
Master Plan. Y.A.A. is anxious to see implementation of the Master Plan as quickly as possible
and will assist in reaffirming our city's needs to get the necessary support. A workshop is
scheduled for Thursday, April 27th, and presentation of the numbers of participants for baseball,
softball, roller hockey is imperative to emphasis needs.
*Recreation staff positions for Special Events Coordinator and Athletic Coordinator are
vacant and applications are being received in Human Resources.
PARKS
*Gardens High School will soon have it own softball field. Y.A.A. will have an additional
softball field at that time.
*Master Plan for Gardens Park, Lake Catherine, and tentative plans for Plant Drive Park
were presented to Advisory Board by Dick Cameron. The properties at Howell Lane and Klock
can provide additional possibilities for expansion; a tour of these two properties will be held so
that board members can see our options.

III OLD BUSINESS:
*NSA World Series Fast Pitch Tournament, scheduled for August Ist through August 6th,
plans are in place and we are working closely with Jupiter, P.B.G.Y.A.A, will be handling the
concessions at our fields. We will be hosting a picnic for 3,000 at PGA National Park.
*Roller Hockey will temporarily be held at Plant Drive Park. Dick Cameron presented a
new plan to relocate tee -ball fields and construct two roller hockey rinks in their place.
V NEW BUSINESS:
*Master Plan/Parks is still be reviewed, and discussed by Y.A.A. and Parks and
Recreation Department. Howell Lane may be incorporated into the Master Plan.
*Green Acres Referendum passed for Police and Fire requirements, but Recreation was
not passed. Our Advisory Board must gather information from Green Acres and determine how
we can use their referendum strategies to our advantage.
*Needs assessment and statistics of our survey in 1993 must be reviewed again so that
statistics play an important part in our referendum movement. Level of service continues to be of
utmost importance to PBG residents.
V MEMBERS REPORTS:
*FYI -- Joseph Russo is Mayor and Lauren Furtado is Vice - Mayor.
*John Elsner reported on Tennis
-Adult USTA Tournament being held April 29 - 30
-New Tennis Pro Shop should be considered
- Recommends additional hydro grid courts
*Playscape will be removed and simultaneously a new play structure will be erected.
*Oaks Park Jogging Trail is in good shape and being used frequently.
*Oaks Park Phase I, playground structure -- RFP's are being accepted.

*Our next meeting will be May 2,1995 at Riverside Community Center at 7:30pm.
*The monthly agendas will be distributed at the beginning of each meeting instead
of being mailed with the minutes.
