Our Teen Center continues to get good media coverage for the innovative things they are doing with the area youth. Participation is so high, we will soon be outgrowing our Teen Center building. PARKS *Preparation of the fields for the NSA Tournament in August is a top priority with Parks staff. Manager/Facilities and Grounds, Bob Glancy, has been attending meetings with the Town of Jupiter and JTYAA for site preparations on Gardens Park softball fields and Lake Catherine which will be used for backup. III OLD BUSINESS: *Master Plan Presentation on April 27, 1995 brought up discussion on the definition of "Comprehensive Plan". Kim Glas' report was striving for 5 acres per 1,000 based on the University of Florida's Level of Service report. Presently 3.5 acres per 1,000 for recreation is considered acceptable: The City Council did not accept the 5 acre per 1,000 that the Advisory Board was asking fondue to the lack of funding. We are looking into impact fees, grants, shared expense with the County, and innovated funding in order to increase our level of service. Bond issue in November is still a possibility. RECOGNIZED AS THE #1 PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT IN THE NATION WINNER OF THE NATIONAL GOLD MEDAL AWARD *Lake Catherine status has not changed. *Oaks Park enhancement with playground structures will take place during this budget year. We are accepting proposals at this time. IV NEW BUSINESS: *The church property located at the corner of Burns and Military on the southeast side has been toured by city personnel to get ideas and recommendations for use of this property should the city negotiate to buy it. Parks and Recreation would like to see this property purchased. V MEMBERS COMMENTS/REPORTS: *Ronnye Sands commented on an observation she made during a recent visit to the Burns Road Community Center. The behavior of children at the Burns Road Community Center with children running around, yelling and scream, pushing and shoving, and the apparent lack of parental discipline, could present a problem for the city, if o%e of these children gets injured on the slippery tile floors. Recommended signs. *Joanne Steele would like to see a sidewalk on both side of Burns Road to the Community Center. *John Elsner mentioned that he had observed the recycle bins at the Tennis Courts did not seem to be pick up on a regular basis. He also informed the board that in June our Tennis Center will be hosting the 16 -18 year old USTA Tournament, Respectfully Submitted, oV QiQi A M -C M, Dee Schneider Administrative Secretary NOTES: *Our neat meeting will be June 6, 1995 at Riverside Community Center at 7:30pm.
