HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes RAB 051094CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT 4404 BURNS ROAD PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL 33410 (407) 775 -8270 MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MAY 10, 1994 The City of Palm Beach Gardens Parks and Recreation Advisory Board met Tuesday, May 10, 1994 at 7:30 P.M. at our Riverside Community Center. Members present included John Elsner, Sandy Gottlieb, Ronnye Sands, Betsey Yerry, Jim Maynor, Bette Bates, Alternate, Dan Eagle, Y.A.A. President, Councilman Joseph Russo, Susan Miller, Director/Parks and Recreation and Dick Cameron, Superintendent/Parks. Not present: Chairman Jeff Sabin and Braxton Melvin. In the absence of Chairman Jeff Sabin, John Elsner conducted the meeting. • Kim Glas, Planner with Planning and Zoning, and Mark Johnson, Intern with Planning and Zoning, gave a presentation on the City Pathway System which generated both questions and suggestions from the Advisory Board members. They explained the financing of each aspect and informed us that grant money is available for a certain amount of the system. Ideally, this should be coordinated with the Master Plan. I APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: The minutes from the April 5, 1994 meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board were approved as written. II DIRECTOR'S REPORT: *Summer camp and summer program registrations are in progress at Burns Road Community Center and at Riverside Community Center. This season, the pool has a computer with the registration program for lessons and swim team registrations. *Teen Center will be having evening hours for the Drop In and will have during the summer a Saturday Teen Nite at the pool. They are also planning co -ed softball and co -ed volleyball at Plant Drive Park. III OLD BUSINESS: *Master Plan as a whole package could be ready for a November bond issue. President Councilman Joseph Russo Susan Miller, Director /Parks and Recreation Dick Cameron, Superintendent /Parks ABSENT: Braxton Melvin Jeff Sabin, Chairman 0 f V 40 Associations, but there is no written agreement between DiVosta and the homeowners regarding the lighting of the fields. Need to get city council approval to use impact fees for the lighting. Councilman Joseph Russo needs the support of the board members for this project. *In Line Hockey Program is in the hands of Don Babbin at this time and plans are ongoing for their summer program. He is taking sign ups for the hockey summer program at the end of May. *The Oaks Recreation Plan is being looked at with money budgeted to be spent this fiscal year. Neighborhood meetings are being planned and a passive design will be presented to them. St. Mark's wants to be heavily involved. IV NEW BUSINESS: *Regarding "Future Park Vision ", the tract of land that is east of and adjoining our PGA National Park has been mentioned several times by members on our Advisory Board as a great location for additional park space. The property is owned by the Ecclestone Organization and Dick Cameron will go through Charlie Hyatt to see if there are any plans for this tract of land. *A summer break for the Advisory Board was discussed but it will be decided at the June meeting if we will continue meeting throughout the summer on the first Tuesday of the month. The Burns Road Community Center Art Gallery will be available for our meetings over the summer. V MEMBERS REPORTS: *There were no members reports.
