MINUTES
PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
DECEMBER 7, 1993
The City of Palm Beach Gardens Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
met on Tuesday, December 7, 1993 at 7:30 P.M. in the Burns Road
Community Center Art Gallery.
Members present included Chairman Jeff Sabin, John Elsner, Braxton
Melvin, Ronnye Sands, Betsey Yerry, Sandy Gottlieb, Jim Maynor,
Bette Bates, Alternate, Rick DeKeyser, Y.A.A. Vice President, Susan
Miller, Director /Parks and Recreation and Brian McLaughlin,
Superintendent /Recreation.
I APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes from November 21 1993 meeting were approved by all
present with no need for additions or corrections.
II DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
*New members to the Advisory Board were introduced -- Jim
Maynor and Bette Bates, Alternate.
*Superintendent /Recreation Brian McLaughlin was introduced.
*Gymnasium roof repairs to go to bid in January, 1994.
III OLD BUSINESS:
*Y.A.A. Vice President Rick DeKeyser reported on the
popularity of the Roller Hockey League indicating 100 - 120
participants using the rink. Don Babin was credited for
his energies expended in putting this league together.
Y.A.A. feels there is need for a permanent rink.
*Klock property still tied to foundation credits. Advisory
Board wants to move forward with this property and questioned
the use of future impact fees for this purpose with Lake
Catherine tied in to this effort.
*Plant Drive renovations underway for use as our new Teen
Center. Playground equipment to be upgraded and the
concession will be opened in conjunction with the Teen Center.

. *Jeff Sabin to write letter to City Council regarding the
necessity of lighting to provide additional fields for our
use at night in Lake Catherine.
*John Elsner wants emphasis on lighting plan to handle the
immediate recreational needs.
*Lighting of the Jogging Trail to be done the end of December
and should be complete sometime in January, 1994.
IV NEW BUSINESS:
*Jim Maynor and Bette Bates were welcomed to the Advisory
Board by Jeff Sabin. An explanation of the format, purposes
and successes of our board was given to all.
*Oaks Park site is being developed and is planned to be a
semi - passive park. An "Imagination Station" is in the plan.
Additional money will have to be budgeted for completion of
this project.
*Tree and bush planting is going on at this time at Oaks
Park.
*Lake Catherine Park will be discussed at our next monthly
meeting for future development.
V MEMBERS REPORTS:
*Concern was expressed regarding the city golf course.
Marketing ideas for promotion of the golf course are
needed and it was questioned whether our board could become
involved.
VI MISCELLANEOUS:
*City breakfast in recognition for Advisory Boards is being
planned.
*Next scheduled meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 11,
1994 at 7:30 P.M. at Riverside Community Center.
*Agenda for January will be distributed at meeting.
