MILITARY TRAIL PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL 33410 (407) 775 -8270 MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING JUNE 8, 1993 The City of Palm Beach Gardens Parks and Recreation Advisory Board met on Tuesday, June 8, 1993 at 7:30 P.M. at the Burns Road Community Center. Members present included Chairwoman Ronnye Sands, Ellen Finnerty, Betsey Yerry, Sandy Gottlieb, Jeff Sabin, John Elsner, Braxton Melvin, Council Liaison Eric Jablin, Y.A.A. President Tom Heller. Staff present included Acting City Manager Bobbie Herakovich, Acting Director /Parks and Recreation and Parks Superintendent Dick Cameron. Prior to the opening of the meeting our new Parks Superintendent, Dick Cameron, was introduced to the Advisory Board members. The • reorganization or Parks and Recreation was initiated in January and approved by former City Manager John Orr and has just now been completed and put into effect as of June 8, 1993. Jon Iles is the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor and Bob Clancy is the Facility Maintenance Supervisor. Adjoining the Burns Community Center building will be bays /offices to accommodate our additional staff and their equipment. Y.A.A. President Tom Heller praised the team work and efforts of our Parks employees this past weekend during the softball tournament which we hosted. It was the largest tournament we have ever had in our town. I APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes from May 4, 1993 meeting were approved with minor changes, copy of same attached. II OLD BUSINESS: Acting Director Sue Ruskay addressed Jeff Sabin and Ellen Finnerty and asked that they report to the Advisory Board regarding the Subcommittee /Comprehensive Plan findings on level of service. *Kim Glas, Planner from P & Z, Stephanie Russo, intern with Planning and Zoning have worked diligently with Jeff Sabin • and Ellen Finnerty and have prepared a draft to present to the City Council. Advisory Board members are invited to RECOGNIZED AS THE #1 PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT IN THE NATION WINNER OF THE NATIONAL GOLD MEDAL AWARD attend the city workshop on June 24th. Finalized level of service study to be presented to Council in mid -July. *Discussed in depth were the Inventory of Existing Recreation Facilities in the City and the Advisory Board members made suggestions and recommendations regarding the needs of the city as they see them. Table 7 -2 was distributed to all board members for their review. *Discussed also were the Recommended Facility Level of Service Standards for the City. Jeff Sabin and Ellen Finnerty answered questions that the board members had and invited suggestions and recommendations. Table 7 -5 was distributed to all board members for their review. *Needs Assessment Survey completed and mailed on schedule. To date only 264 surveys have been returned. *Needs Assessment Survey data will be compiled and turned over to our statistician for evaluation. *Camp Gardens is now filled. Activity schedules for each group are now available at the Community Centers. III NEW BUSINESS: *A project for the Fall will be to start up a much needed • Beautification and Environmental Committee. Jeff Renault and Charlotte Faulkner will be sought to advise and assist with working on a master plan. *Advisory Board had a sneak preview of the Gardens Master Plan which is anticipated to be done in four phases. Gardens Master Plan is now on Advisory Board's "Wish List "! *Advisory Board will attend the city workshop on June 24th *Ronnye Sands has requested that calls to remind the Advisory Board members of the monthly meetings be made the day before the meeting, not on the day of the meeting. *The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will be September 7, 1993.
