MILITARY TRAIL PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL 33410 (407) 775 -8270 PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD October 16, 1990 The City of Palm Beach Gardens Parks & Recreation Advisory Board held a special meeting on October 16, 1990 at the Community Center. Those present were Chairman Chuck Campbell, Betsey Yerry, Ellen Finnerty, Chuck Goforth, Jeff Sabin, and the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation Sue Ruskay. Mr. Campbell informed everyone of the Y.A.A. meeting on Wed- nesday, October 24th at the Marriott Hotel in Palm Beach Gardens. • The purpose for this special meeting was to discuss ideas for the new Riverside building. Mr. Campbell went over the pro- posed floor plan. Mrs. Ruskay informed the board members of the classes for this building. Mr. Campbell went over the ideas brought up at the last meeting. Mrs. Finnerty would like to see the weight room eliminated and put it in the proposed new community center at AlA and Burns Road. She suggested that the present restrooms be divided in half and put in kiddie toilets, and then put the pre- school rooms on the same side of the building. She also suggested skylights and a cushioned flooring for the multi - purpose room. The Board feels that the Teen Center is a very good idea. They suggested that a counter area be put in the lobby, similar to the one at the Burns Road facility, and make the lobby area open and airy. They like the idea of the lobby and the T.V. room being combined. The Board would like to see • cushioned floor put in the multi - purpose room and maybe • partition to divide this room. The Board decided that the skylights would not be a feasable idea. The suggestion was made to paint the air ducts bright colors in the pre- school area to brighten things up, if the;ceiling(;tiles can be removed. Mr. Sabin asked Mrs. Ruskay to express her thoughts on the Teen Center. She said that it is definitely something we • need to have. The key is the right person to head up this program and then have a Teen Board. Mrs. Ruskay recom- mended that the patio area be screened. She said that they RECOGNIZED AS THE ##1 PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT IN THE NATION WINNER OF THE 1989 NATIONAL GOLD MEDAL AWARD rr 2 need their own entrance. The teen coordinator would be a part time person. The Board agreed that the teen area must be well lighted inside and outside. The idea of the the multi - purpose room being used for teen dances was also suggested. The teens need game tables, ping gong, foosball, and card tables. The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 P.M.
