PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
August 7, 1990
The City of Palm Beach Gardens Parks and Recreation Advisory
Board met on Tuesday, August 7, 1990, at the Community Center.
Those present were Chairman Chuck Campbell, Betsey Yerry, John
Elsner, Chuck Goforth, and the Director of Parks & Recreation
Doug Hood.
The meeting was brought to order by the Chairman, Mr. Campbell.
He said that he wanted to discuss the objectives for the
• coming year. Mr. Campbell also mentioned that Mayor ?Martino
wrote a letter to the Youth Athletic Association concerning
the nonresident issue. The letter was read out loud by
Mr. Hood, but it has not been approved by the City Council
as of this meeting. The two groups in the Y.A.A. that this
new policy would mostly affect are the girls softball and
the boys 16 -18 baseball teams. Annexation will also take in
more of the nonresidents. Mr. Campbell and the rest of the
Board members feel that the letter does a good job of covering
all the nonresident issues.
Mr. Campbell congratulated Mr. Hood on the "Bop Til You Drop"
festivities being a big success again this year. The in-
clement weather probably kept some of the people away. Mr.
Hood said that they are thinking of expanding the hours next
year.
The Summer Program is going well, and comes to an end this
Friday, August 10th.
The Riverside Community Center renovations have started.
Mr. Hood said that he would welcome any suggestions from the
Advisory Board for this new community center. He also said
that there will be a complete Teen Center at this facility,
and hopes that it will be a success. Mr. Goforth wanted to
• make sure that there are facilities for the Senior Citizens.
Mr. Hood said that he will have whoever designs the interior
of this building to come to an Advisory Board meeting and
discuss the plans.

about 70 acres of parks and two community centers. Mr. Hood
mentioned that we will be getting another community center
from Divosta at the corner of AlA and Burns Road.
Mr. Campbell would like to see more jogging and bike trails
in the city. Also, he feels that we need more pool facilities,
such as a lap pool.
