The first step, however, is to see if the City Council is • agreeable to expansion and look into the purchase of land. Then architects could draw final plans. There are funds in the Recreation Land Account that could be used for the purchase of property for expansion. Doug Hood stated that Foundation Land Company has been in touch with the City and the proposed land swap could possi- bly take place in the near future. A drawing was shown with the property south of Howell Watkins Jr. High School being utilized with a four -plex plan for ballfields, parking, and a passive park. It was stated this area is best suited for 250' fields since that was the need for the largest age group in the city. An additional plan for an office building that would house the administrative staff of the Parks and Recreation Depart- ment was presented. This is a simple oblong building to be situated on the Community Center property. The present offices in the Community Center could then be utilized as meeting rooms. The plan to use'the sales office at the Bluffs for Parks and Recreation staff offices had to be abandoned because of the prohibited cost of moving the building. Burg and DiVosta Construction Company will sell the City building materials at cost and possibly help con- struct a new office building so that the cost is as low as possible. This would be a permanent facility. The City building a public golf course was discussed. This is something the City would like to have. It is just a matter of acquiring the property and building a golf facility. It may be possible to negotiate with Seacoast Utilities for property for a future golf course. Advisory Board Chairman Chuck Campbell made a motion that the Board accept and recommend to the City Council that the expansion program for Parks and Recreation be passed and action be taken to purchase property and take whatever steps are necessary to go ahead with the proposed plans. The motion was seconded and unanimously approved.
