HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Reorganizational meeting 031182CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL (REORGANIZATION U) MEETING MARCH 11, 1982 The Special (Reorganizational) Meeting of the City Council of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, was called to order by Mayor Kiedis at 8:00 P.M. in the Assembly Room, 10500 North Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. ROLL CALL: The roll was called by the City Clerk and present were: Mayor Kiedis, Vice Mayor Martino, Councilman Aldred, Councilwoman Monroe, and Council- man Kiselewski. City Manager John Orr and Attorney William Brant were also in attendance. Mayor Kiedis complimented the Council on their "degree of decorum" in conducting meetings this past year. He thanked the City Manager for his cooperation with the Council in their various requests; and also, thanked the various department heads and advisory boards of the City for jobs "well done ". Mayor Kiedis synopsized the accomplishments by /in the City this past year. REORGANIZATION: APPOINTMENT OF A MAYOR OF THE CITX Mayor Kiedis opened the floor to nominations for Mayor. Councilman Aldred nominated Councilman Kiselewski for Mayor. Councilman Kiselewski nominated Vice Mayor Martino for Mayor. In response to Councilwoman Monroe, Councilman Aldred offered that due to business commitments, he wished his name not be placed in nomination for Mayor. Councilwoman Monroe offered for the record she would very much like for Councilman Aldred to be the City's nest Mayor; however, she would boot to his current employment conditions (i.e., change in employers). Nominations for Mayor were closed. In response to Councilman Kiselewski, Vice Mayor Martino advised he had been Mayor of the City three times and Vice Mayor once in the past. (Mr. Martino was Councilman of the City 10/5/72 - 3/11/80, during which he iswas Mayor 3128/74 - 3/10/77; and has been a Councilman again since the March 10, 1981 General Election, in which he has served as Vice Mayor of the City.) City Council Special (Reorganizational) Meeting, 3/11/82 Page 2 During Mayor Kiedis' exercise of a poll of the members of the Council as to their selection of Councilman Kiselewski or Vice Mayor Martino as the March /1982- March /1983 Mayor of the City, Councilwoman Monroe and Councilman Kiselewski indicated their votes would be cast for Councilman Kiselewski as Mayor. Councilman Aldred intervened by making a motion Councilman Kiselewski become the Mayor by acclamation. The motion was unanimously adopted. APPOINTMENT OF A VICE MAYOR OF THE CITY Mayor Kiedis opened the floor to nominations for Vice Mayor. Councilwoman Monroe nominated Councilman Aldred for Vice Mayor. Councilman Aldred withdrew his name from consideration. Councilman Aldred nominated Councilwoman Monroe for Vice Mayor. Mayor Kiedis relinquished the gavel /chair to Councilman Kiselewski. As Temporary Chairman, Councilman Kiselewski inquired as to any further nominations from the floor for Vice Mayor of the City. Mayor Kiedis nominated Vice Mayor Martino for Vice Mayor. Vice Mayor Martino nominated Mayor Kiedis for Vice Mayor. Vice Mayor Martino requested he not be considered fur Vice Mayor. Nominations for Vice Mayor were closed. Councilman Kiselewski called for the question. Councilman Aldred, Councilwoman Monroe, and Councilman Kiselewski voted for Councilwoman Monroe; Mayor Kiedis and Vice Mayor Martino voted for Mayor Kiedis as the March /1982 - March /1983 Vice Mayor of the Citv. Councilwoman Monroe was appointed the City's Vice Mayor by three affirmative votes of the Council. Councilman Kiselewski relinquished the gavel /chair back to Mayor Kiedis. APPOINTMENT OF DEPUTY TREASURER OF THE CITY Mayor Kiodis opened the floor to nominations for Deputy Treasurer, Councilman Aldred nominated Mayor Kiedis as Deputy Treasurer of the City. :Mayor Kiedis was appointed Deputy Treasurer of the City, by acclamation.
