HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Reorganization meeting 031678REORGANIZATION MEETING CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS MARCH 16, 1978 The Reorganization Meeting of the City Council of Palm Beach Gardens was called to order by Mayor Feeney at 8:00 P.M. in the Assembly Room, 10500 N. Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. ROLL CALL: Roll was called by the City Clerk and present were: Mayor Feeney, Vice Mayor Laurie, Councilman Martino, Councilman Kiedis and Councilman Wiley. Attorney Brant was in attendance. OATH OF The Oath of Office was administered by the City Clerk to Dick Feeney, Samuel Laurie and Dick Aldred, and congratulations were extended by the City Council. APPOINTMENT At his request, Councilman Martino was appointed by the Council 1OF TEMPORARY as Temporary Chairman of the Reorganization Meeting. PRESENTATION OF PLAQUE TO WALTER H. WILEY: Councilman Martino, next to the oldest Councilman, in terms of service on the Council, spoke from the podium, stating that Mr. Walter H.Wiley was once again, and he hoped not for the last time, joining the ranks of resident of the City of Palm Beach Gardens. He continued to say that Mr. Wiley is an outstanding: contributor and citizen of the City and the surrounding community; that he was a tremendous individual and the city owed him a debt of gratitude. Councilman Kiedis, who also had served longest with Mr. Wiley, catg forward, and thanked Mr. Wiley for his help and outstanding service to the City. Mayor Feeney echoed their remarks and presented a plaque to Mr. Wiley on behalf of the Council and residents of the City. i Reorganization Meeting, March 16, 1978 Page 2 Mr. Wiley expressed that this was his home away from home, and in October he will have completed ten years of service to the City beginning with serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals in 1968. He remarked that he has thoroughly enjoyed the relation- ship with the people working for the City, and that the City is fortunate and blessed to have the kind of people that have served and are serving on the Council. He commented he would treasure the plaque and sincerely appreciated the thought put into it and appreciated the words that have been said. APPOINTMENT Mayor Feeney nominated Samuel Laurie for Mayor, seconded by OF MAYOR: Dick Aldred. Councilman martino nominated John Kiedis for Mayor, seconded by Samuel Laurie. The nominations were closed by a unanimous vote of the Council. John Kiedis was appointed as Mayor by a unanimous vote of the Council. APPOINTMENT Councilman Aldred nominated Samuel Laurie for Vice Mayor, OF VICE MAYOR: seconded by Mayor Feeney. Councilman Kiedis nominated Mike Martino for Vice Mayor. Mr. Martino declined the nomination. The nominations were closed by a unanimous vote of the Council. Sam Laurie was appointed as Vice Mayor by a unanimous vote of the Council. APPOINTMENT By unanimous vote of the Council, Dick Aldred and Dick Feeney OF DEPUTY TREASURER: were appointed Deputy Treasurers. APPOINTMENT Mike Martino was unanimously appointed by the Council as OF CHAIRMAN . ,_PRO -TEM: Chairman Pro --Tem. Reorganization Meeting, March 16, 1978 Page 3 RESOLUTIONS: Resolution #17, 1978 appointing the Mayor and Vice Mayor was RESOLUTION read in full by the City Clerk and unanimously adopted by the ,__ Council. RESOLUTION Resolution #18, 1978 appointing the Deputy Treasurers and 16, designating signatures for the various accounts of the City was read in full by the City Clerk and unanimously adopted by the Council. A recess was called to congratulate the new appointees. ADJOURNMENT: No further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:40 P.M.
