HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Council 092476WORKSHOP MEETING CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS SEPTEMBER 24, 1976 The Workshop Meeting of the City Council of Palm Beach Gardens held September 23, 1976, which was recessed to this date and time, was reconvened at 7 :10 P.M. in the Assembly Room, 10500 N. Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and called to order by Mayor Martino. ROLL CALL: Present were: Mayor Martino, Vice Mayor Feeney, Councilman Kiedis, Councilman Laurie, Councilman Rossow and t-ity Manager John L. Orr. PURPOSE: The purpose of the meeting was to consider Item #1 on the agenda of the Workshop Meeting of September 23, 1976 relative to the applications for the Chief of Police position. Councilman Rossow suggested that a procedure be arrived at to determine the method of cutting the list, and thereafter arrange for those who meet the standards, and interviews be held post haste. He stated for the record that the applicants have in fact applied as they saw fit, either by application for employment, which is not required, or by resume or by letter. Mayor Martino stated that as per the meeting of September 20th, each member of the City Council submitted a list of preferences. 45 applications were received. The City Manager then presented each Council member with a memorandum containing a composite list broken down as far as the number of times they appeared. The list indicated that 6 names appeared compositely three or more times. Those application numbers were 2, 4, 6, 10, 15 and 23. Workshop Meeting, September 24, 1976 Page 2 The following additions and deletions were spade to the list by the City Manager and Council. City Manager John L. Orr - added #44 Mayor Martino - added #44 Vice Mayor Feeney - added #19 and #44; deleted #26 and #30. Councilman Kiedis _ added #6; deleted *5 and #19 Councilman Laurie - deleted #21 Councilman Rossow - no changes The composite list after the additions and deletions totaled 9 - #2, 6, 10, 15, 4, 19, 23, 31 and 44. The City Manager was directed to schedule interviews for two local applicants on Wednesday, September 29, 1976 at 7 :30 P.M. and 9 :00 P.M. The Council agreed that the interviews would be, as in the past, not open to the public, until an opinion: is received from the Attorney General's office or advice as to the legality given by the City Attorney.
