CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS
OCTOBER 142 1976
The Special Meeting of the City Council of Palm Beach Gardens was called
to order by Mayor Martino at 8:00 P.M. in the Assembly Room, 10500 N.
Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and opened with the Pledge
of Allegiance to the Flag.
ROLL CALL: Roll was called by the City Clerk and present were: Mayor Martino,
Vice Mayor Feeney, Councilman Kiedis, Councilman Laurie, and Councilman
Rossow. Attorney Brant was in attendance.
APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF OF POLICE:
PURPOSE: Mayor Martino explained that the purpose of the Special Meeting was to
appoint a Chief of Police to replace Chief Pecht who is retiring from
the Department on October 25, 1976.
DISCUSSION:Mayor Martino reiterated that 46 applications had been received and 5
local people had been interviewed. He further stated that the Charter
of the City provides that the appointment of Department Heads is made
by the City Manager with confirmation by the City Council.
City Manager John L. Orr presented the name William Edwards as his
recommendation and gave his reasons for same.
Councilman Kiedis, Councilman Laurie and Councilman Rossow indicated
that Further discussion was in order before making the appointment.
Mayor Martino and Vice Mayor Feeney were ready to make the appointment
but concurred to discuss the appointment at the Workshop Meeting
following.

A motion was made by Councilman Kiedis, seconded by Councilman
Rossow to adjourn the Special Meeting. Vote on the motion to adjourn --
Mayor Martino, Councilman Kiedis, Councilman Laurie and Councilman
Rossow voted aye; Vice Mayor Feeney voted nay. Time for the record
was 8 :30 P.M.
