CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS
MAY 9, 1973
A special Meeting of the City Council was called to order by Mayor
Wiley at 7:50 P.M. in the Assembly Room, 10500 N. Military Trail,
Palm Beach Gardens.
ROLL CALL: Roll was called by the City Clerk and present were: Councilman
Dunbar, Councilman DeLonga, Councilman Martino, Vice Mayor Kiedis
and Mayor Wiley.
PURPOSE: The Special Meeting was called because of the receipt of a telephone
call on this date advising that Applicant #74, scheduled for an
interview on Friday, May 110 1973, wished to cancel and withdraw his
application. Therefore the Council was in the position to determine
whether to extend an offer to those who had been interviewed or to
expedite further interviews.
Mayor Wiley stated the Council to date had interviewed five of the
- thirteen applicants recommended by the City Manager Applicant Screening
Committee - those being #45, 52, 20, 16 and 29. The Council rejected
#6, 36, 70 and 78, the reason being primarily the requested salary
was too high or no response was received from communications sent to
them; leaving #28, 37, 51 and 63 who could not be reached. The
Council added #19, 16, 84 and 55 and later rejected #55.
Mayor Wiley recommended that the Council rank the first five applicants
they had interviewed to determine if an offer should be made or if
the Council should pursue additional interviews. It was the unanimous
decision of the Council that their first and second choices were #45
and #16, and beyond that they desired to interview further.
An offer will be made to Applicant #45 and the Council agreed to pay
Applicant #45 moving expenses to this area. The salary agreed on was
u
a net equivalent of $15,500. This will consist of the payment for
hospitalization for the applicant and his family, pension, the

premium on the life insurance on the City Manager and the premium
on a current insurance policy now held by the applicant. The
applicant will be requested to report to work on either June 11th or
June 18, 1973.
The Council authorized the Mayor, in the event Applicant #45 does not
accept, to offer the position to Applicant #16 at a salary range
between $13,500 and $14,000.
The Council agreed not to extend any other interviews pending the
acceptance of either of the offers.
ADJOURNMENT. No further business, the meeting adjourned at 8 :35 P.M.
