HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Council 121373 SpecialSPUCIAL MEETING CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDF.NS n7;CFJlBlil? 13, 1973 The Special Fleeting of the City Council of Palm Beach Gardens was called to order by Mayor Kiedis at 8:00 P.M. in the Assembly Room, 10500 N. military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the ;lag. ROLL CALL: Roll was called by the City Clerk and present were: Councilman Wiley, Councilman DeLonga, vice Mayor Dunbar and Mayor Kiedis. Attorney Brant was present. Councilman Martino was absent. The City Manager was absent due to illness. PURPOSE: The Special Meeting was called for the purpose of considering Monday, December 24, 1973 as a paid holiday for City employees; to authorize payment for the balance due for electrical supplies to complete the work on lighting the tennis courts at thu High School; and to give �- authorization to Howard Kuhns to proceed with preliminary rewiring of the emergency generator which is a needed priority item. PAID HOLIDAY: Councilman Wiley acknowledged the fact that several of the major Industries had taken upon themselves to voluntarily close their places of business during the week of Christmas in an effort to conserve energy, and also from a practical standpoint realizing the employees would not have a productive day on the day before Christmas, he moved that the City Council declare Monday, December 24, 1973 as a paid holiday for all City employees of Palm Beach Gardens. Motion was unanimously carried by the Council. LIGHTS FOR Mayor Kiedis explained that authorization was needed to charge to TENNIS COURTS: the Contingency Fund the sum of $558.13, the balance due for electrical components that were used for lighting the tennis courts at the High School. Motion was made, seconded and unanimously carried Special Meeting, December 13, 1973 Page 2 authorizing payment of $558.13 from the Contingency Fund for electrical supplies for lighting the tennis courts at the High School. The Council directed the City Comptroller to prepare an accounting of the Contingency Fund expenditures and balance. EMERGENCY Mayor Kiedis explained he had held a discussion with Howard Kuhns, GENERATOR. Electrical Engineer, who offered the services of one of his employees to rewire the generator on a preliminary test basis to determine if its condition would merit wiring and putting on automatic controls. The City would be billed for nominal labor charges and materials. If Mr. Kuhns determines the generator is worthy of repair, bids would be submitted to companies thatd?alt with control kits and the best bid submitted to the Council for awarding, and at the same time a figure would be submitted for labor for installing these kits. Motion made, seconded and unanimously carried that Mr. Kuhns be authorized to proceed with this plan as discussed with Mayor Kiedis to rewire the emergency generator on a preliminary test basis. ADJOURNMENT. No further business, the meeting adjourned at 8.15 P.M.
