HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Council 042673 Special• ROLL CALL: PURPOSE: AWARDING OF BIDS - PORTABLE RADIOS: •RESIGNATION FIRE CHIEF: SPECIAL MEETING CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS APRIL 26, 1973 The Special Meeting of the City Council was called to order by i "layor Wiley at 8:15 P.M. in the Assembly Room, 10500 N. Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, and opened with Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Roll was called by the City Clerk and present were: Councilman Dunbar, Councilman DeLonga, Councilman Martino, Vice Mayor Kiedis and Mayor Wiley. Attorney William Brant was also present. The Special Meeting was called for the purpose of considering the following: 1. Awarding of bids for 4 portable radios and accessories that were received and opened at the Regular Meeting on April 19, 1973. 2. The resignation of Fire Chief Millard Summers. 3. Authorization for a consultant to work with the Fire Department and the Police Department regarding the emergency facilities of the City. 4. Extending the fences in the Lake Catherine area. 5. Authorization to have a boothette telephone installed at the Lake Catherine area. The reason for discussion on the above was the need for authorization to expedite those items and in the case of the Fire Chief because his;.!_;:' resignation was submitted effective April 25, 1973 without the 2 weeks termination notice. The Council, by unanimous motion, accepted the recommendation from the Police Chief Herbert Pecht to award the bid for 4 portable radios and accessories to Spencer Communications in the bid amount of $3,672.00. The RCA units were accepted because of their small size enabling them to be carried on belt clips and because their output is much greater. The Council unanimously accepted the resignation of Fire Chief Millard Summers effective April 25, 1973 and he will be paid for two weeks Special Meeting, April 26, 1973 Pag e 2 vacation for the fiscal year 1971 -72 plus 5 vacation days due him for the fiscal year 1972 -73. Fire Chief Summers has advised the Council he will remain active as a member of the Volunteer Fire Department. The Acting City Manager reported the President of the Volunteer Fire Department has been advised of the above action. EMERGENCY At the request of the Chief of Police and the Fire Chief for the FACILITIES: assistance of an electrical engineer to evaluate the situation of the emergency facilities of the City, relative to the recent power failure, the Council authorized the Acting City Manager to deteribine the engineering fees for such an evaluation. ADDITIONAL The Council unanimously authorized the expenditure of $534.00 for 120' FENCING -LAKE CATHERINE of additional fencing to extend 10' beyond the base lines for safety BALL FIELDS: reasons at the Lake Catherine ball fields, to be charged to Capital Account 01 -600. BOOTHETTE The Council authorized the additional expenditure of $1.90per month • TELEPHONE AT LAKE CATHERINE :for a boothette telephone at the Lake Catherine area, installation at • no charge to the City. This phone will be for emergency use inasmuch as the present telephone located in the concession stand is not available when the stand is closed. ADJOURNMENT.
