REMARKS BY "I would like to recognize two special guests we have in the audience. The first MAYOR WILEY: one I'd like to recognize is the fourth Mayor of the City, Mr. George Bonner and the next man is the Mayor just preceding past -Mayor DeLonga, who had to resign to become a member of the Palm Beach County School Board, Mr. George Blanck. When we came to this Council two years ago the efforts of both George's and the other Mayors and Councils had brought this City quite a ways and I feel that in the time that Jim DeLonga has been Mayor and, incidently, there is only one man who served a longer time and that was Bob Diamond and that is a matter of weeks apart in their service to the City. We've come a long way due in a large part to the personal efforts of Jim DeLonga and I would like to recognize those efforts now. We had open disagreement with Mr. John D. MacArthur, our founder; we had a lot of things in the City that needed correcting. We haven't been able to correct a lot of them but have taken tremendous strides towards corrections. We invited Mr. John D. MacArthur to come to our Council meeting primarily through the efforts of Jim DeLonga. We made him honorary Mayor; we've extracted promises from him to fix the sewer plant, to give us the water and sewer connections we needed here at the City Hall. All of which I don't think could have been brought about except for u the manner in which Jim conducted himself as Mayor in which he represented the City. I think he did an outstanding job and I know I'm going to have an awful hard job filling his shoes and I am extremely greatful that he is going to be here / 4/6/72 Page 3 on the Council working with us. It will make the job a lot easier because we'll have double punch, so to speak. So, Jim in behalf of the City,l would like to thank you for your efforts and congratulate you on the fine job you have done and look forward to more of the very same thing."
