HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Council 100572 SpecialSPECIAL MEETING CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS OCTOBER 5, 1972 The Special Meeting of the City Council was held in the Assembly Room, 10500 N. Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and was called to order by Mayor Wiley at 8:10 P.M. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. ROLL CALL: Roll was called by the City Clerk and present were Councilman Dunbar, Councilman Bonner, Councilman DeLonga, Vice Mayor Kiedis and Mayor Wiley. City Manager Robert Carlson and Attorney Brant were also present. PURPOSE: The purpose of the Special Meeting was to Canvass the votes of the Special Election held October 3, 1972. MINUTES: The City Clerk read the minutes of the Special Meeting held October 3, 1972 for the purpose of canvassing the Absentee Ballots. Motion to approve the minutes, as corrected, was made by Councilman Bonner, seconded by Vice Mayor Kiedis. Motion unanimously carried. RESOLUTION Resolution #42, 1972 - certifying the results of the Special Election held October 3, 1972 was read by the City Clerk. Motion to adopt Resolution #42, as corrected, was made by Vice Mayor Kiedis seconded by Councilman Bonner. Motion unanimously carried. Mayor Wiley stated there had been some discussion regarding the placement of the City ballot,by the County Supervisor of Elections, on the voting machines. It was alleged the ballot was hidden and was inconvenient. As a matter of reference the City Clerk compiled the total number of votes in the State Supreme Court race and the School Board race that had received County wide publicity in the newspapers. In the Supreme Court race 921 votes were registered, School Board District #3 - 1082 votes, District #5- 1024 votes, District #6 - 936 votes and District #7, which is our district. 1014 votes. 1284 people came to the poles to register their vote in Palm Beach Gardens, 1038 of those voted in the City Election which commanded the second highest number of votes of the six issues.- Mayor Wiley concluded r Special Meeting, October 5, 1972 Page 2 that position on the ballot did not appear to influence the interest in any particular race. Mayor Wiley complimented both candidates for the campaign they ran stating they had conducted themselves in a very intelligent manner. ADJOURNMENT: Motion for adjournment by Councilman Dunbar, seconded by Vice Mayor Kiedis. Time for the record 8:22 P.M.
