HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Council 030171' WORKSHOP MEETING CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS March 1, 1971 The Workshop meeting of the City of Palm Beach Gardens City Council was called to order by Mayor DeLonga and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. ROLL CALL Rell was called by the City Clerk: Present were: Councilman Prentiss, Councilman James, Councilma Orr, Vice Mayor Wiley and Mayor DeLonga. Atty. Wm. Brant and City Manager, Robert Carlson were present. REPORTS Vice Mayor Wiley reported on the meeting of the surrounding Municipal Fire Departments which was held at City Hall on February 25, 1971. Mayor DeLonga read a letter from the Garden Lodge No. 366 in which they suggested the date of April 3, 1971 for the cornerstone laying ceremonies. Council was in agreement for this date and will plan ceremonies. OPENING BIDS Mr. Carlson opened the bids for the 2 ton truck which had been advertised. on If TON THUCK The following submitted bids: Roger Dean - - - - -- 2767,53 GMC - - - - - -- 2799.25 Palm Beach Dodge- - - - - -- 2632.02 & 2484.87 Benz- - - - - -- 2795.10 Council referred the bid to the City Manager and director of Public Works for study and recommendations. PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS Dept. of Trans. A letter from the Dept.of Transportation re relocation of utitlities on Northlake Blvd was acknowledged. Mayor DeLonga stated the City did not have utilities in this area and it would not affect the City. Commendation to A letter from Chief Mortimer, Fire District #2, commending the City's Fire Fire Department Department for the excellent response and action at various fires was read by Mayor DeLonga. County meeting Mr. Carlson was instructed to represent the City at the joint meeting on Tax Fee of the municipalities in Palm Beach County,Grand Jury room to consider a contract with the County Tax Collector and Tax Assessor. Meeting scheduled for Thursday,March 11, 1971 at 7 :30 P.M. PROCLAMATION A Proclamation declaring March 7 through March 13 as Girl Scout week was read and signed by Mayor DeLonga. ff71 Page 2 Invitation to °Mayor DeLonga stated that he had conferred with County Commissioner Comm. Culpepper Culpepper and had invited him to attend a workshop meeting with the City Council to discuss the County's plans for a county wide sanitary sewer service and the County's plans to build a North County Complex. ITEMS BY CITY MANAGER AND CITY CLERK: 1. Don Hibbard, Director of Materials of the Palm Beach Gardens Community Hospital presented a resume of the future plans of the Hospital and requested permission to use 3 trailers for a storage area until expansion of the Hospital is completed. Council was in accord to allow storage of the first 5 classification of supplies list attached and to exclude items 6, 7, and 8. Mr. Hibbard was requested to supply information on the future plans and intent to eventually eliminate the use of the trailers when expansion is completed. 2. First National Bank presented a letter asking for a permit to erect �✓ a modular building on their site on Lighthouse Drive and A -1 -A, an area serviced by North Palm Beach Utilities. Council felt that traffic problems would be serious at this intersection and also would prefer the Bank to show plans of the future building. Mayor DeLonga was in favor of granting the permit for a period of one year. Poll of the Council on whether to send the request to the Planning and Zoning Commission for their recommendations were: Councilman Prentiss, Vice Mayor Wiley and Councilman James voted aye and Mayor DeLonga and Councilman Orr voted nay. 3. E. B. Shearin, President of the Volunteer Fire Department presented a proposal to the Council for remodeling of the present City Hall for additional space for Fire Department functions. Council heard suggestions and preferred to have the Public Works Department get together with the Fire Department for discussion and plans. r ` PALM BEACH , GAltDE'N5 COMMUNITY .HOSPITAL 3360 9URNS ROAD ..,... The five classifications are as follows: (1) Intravenous Solutions in plastic and glass (2) Surgical Dressings, Tapes, 'and Drapes (3) General Office Supplies, Forms, and Paper Products. (4) Infant Formula in' Glass (5) Suture ** If an alarm system is installed, or if there are security guards J employed for the premises, it is requested that the following categories be added to the above classifications: ** (6) Medical Rubber and Plastic i 3/1/71 Page 3 4. The Council will meet at the Complex at 8:00 A.M. March 6, Saturday for inspection of the new City Hall prior to approval of substantial completion. 5. Bomb threat investigations were discussed with Fire Chief Summers and Police Chief Pecht. 6. Student in Government day was set for April 26, 1971. 7. Subdivision Regulations were reviewed and amendments made. The request from Southern Bell Telephone Co. for modification of the regulations regarding placement of cable was discussed and Council was in accord to contact the S. Bell Company for clarification of the letter on the statment of 90% underground service in the City and also for more information. 8. Mayor DeLonga read a letter from Sam Carsillo who volunteered his services to the Planning and Zoning Commission. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Ordinance Review Board meeting March 4, 1971. City Council Regular meeting at 7:00 P.M. Monday, March 8 prior to the Bond Issue presentation at the High School. Action to be taken on the Public Address System Bid and on the bid for the z ton truck and review of the Newsletter.
