BUDGET WORKSHOP MEETING
Monday, Sept. 27,
PURPOSE: A Workshop Meeting to discuss the 1971 -1972 General Fund Budget for
the City of Palm Beach Gardens was tailed to order by Mayor DeLonga
at 7:50 P.M. The Meeting was held in the Public Assembly Room,
Palm Beach Gardens' City Hall. Present were Mayor DeLonga, Vice
Mayor Wiley, Councilmen James, Orr and Kiedis. The City Manager-,,
Carlson and Police Chief Pecht were also in attendance. The City
Attorney and the City Clerk were excused.
DISCUSSION AND

N DNS: The City Council unanimously agreed to grant a 4.24% Cost of Living
Increase to all Merit System Employees and to establish a Merit
Fund of 2.75% of the total salaries of the Merit System Employees.
The Police Department's Budget was discussed with Chief Pecht and it
was unanimously agreed to make the following adjustments:
Account #201 - Utilities: Reduced from $2,627.00 to $2,573.00
($54.00 transferred to Public Works and Fire Department)
Account #315 - Uniforms and Leather Goods: (Increased from $4,000.00
to $4,500.00).
Account #340 - Miscellaneous: Increased from $450.00 to $800.00
(Jr. Police, from $250.00 to $500.00 plus an additional $100.00
for drinking water.)
Account #401 - Insurance: Increased from $8,775.00 to $9,000.00
($225.00 for additional premiums to conform with State Statutes
requiring $20,000.00 Insurance Coverage for all Law Enforcement
Officers.)
Account #600 - Capital Outlay: Reduced from $21,142.00 to $16,092.00
(Four (4) Police Cars authorized instead of five (5), reducing sum
$13,000.00 to $10,000. Deleted two (2) portable radios at $1,500.00.

Reduced request for six (6) jail beds to three (3) ($1,000.00 to
$500.00). Request for six (6) mattresses and pillows reduced to
three (3): ($100.00 to $50.00). The above adjustments resulted
in a $4,029.00 reduction in the Police Department's Budget.
The City Council deferred a decision regarding additional personnel
in the Police Department until such time as all Department's Budgets
have been reviewed.
The Police Department's request for $1,300.00 to purchase an ID
camera, stand and equipment was also deferred pending receipt of
additional information regarding same.
Another Budget Workshop Meeting was scheduled for 5:00 P.M. on
Thursday, September 30, 1971, at which time salaries of Department
Heads and the Public Works Department Budget will be reviewed. The
City Manager, R. Carlson, was instructed to have the Public Works
Department Director in attendance at this meeting.
State Senator, Philip D. Lewis made a brief appearance at the
Meeting. He reported some of Governor Askew's future plans in regard
to Water Management.
Meeting adjourned at 10 :30 P.M.
