HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Council 101471/ WORKSHOP MEETING CITY OF PAIM BEACH GARDENS October 14, 1971 QUORUM After adjournment of the Special meeting Council went into the Workshop meeting and Mayor DeLonga announced there was a quorum present with all members in attendance. OPENING BIDS Mr. Carlson opened the bids for the shuffle board courts and canopies from SHUFFLE ED.CTS. the following: Silvestri- -$6860 for courts and $8300 for canopies,aluminum. Nidi Construction Co. $5157 for courts and $6249 for canopies,aluminum. Mr. Carlson recommended the bids be referred to the Engineer and Recreation Director and City Manager for study and recommendations. Councilagreed. He also stated he was in receipt of plans and specifications for concrete canopies at a cost of approximately $9750. Council authorized Mr. Carlson to advertise for bids for the concrete canopies and allowed for engineering costs of approximately $200.00 and also to advertise for alternate bids for the shuffleboard courts. REPORT ON Vice Mayor Wiley reported on the recommendations of the Central Fire Station FIRE STATION Committee. The Committee recommended the relocation of the site to the southwest corner of the Complex site, fronting onto Burns Road. He stated the Committee felt this was an ideal site as it was centrally located and in keeping with the Municipal Complex, compatible architecturally and functionally, and allows a safer situation. Vice Mayor Wiley asked Council to authorize the Committee to proceed with proper investigation as to the road situation and the placement of the building at the corner of North Military Trail and Burns Road. Motion by Councilman James seconded by Council- man Kiedis to allow the Committee to proceed. Vote 5 ayes and 0 nays. TRAILER AT PGA Mrs. Murphy of the Palm Beach Investment Properties Inc. presented a request &US #1 to the Council for an extension of the time on the use of a trailer at the corner of US #1 and PGA Boulevard. She informed Council the Company was trying to negotiate for purchase of the land and to then construct a permanent building, and that a contract had been entered into for landscaping the area and repainting of the buildings and trailer located on the present site. / 1U/14/71 rage c Councilman Orr moved that an extension of one year be given, seconded by Vice Mayor Wiley. Mayor DeLonga polled council and the results were: Councilman Kiedis, Orr and James and Vice Mayor Wiley- extend the time to `J one year and Mayor DeLonga- extend time to 6 months. Mayor DeLonga instructed the City Attorney draw up a resolution for the extension of one year with action to be taken at the Regular meeting of October 21, 1971. TRAILERS AT RCA Council authorized Attorney Baldwin to draw up a resolution for the extension of the time on the use of the trailers at RCA Company till December 31, 1971. ZONING BOARD OF Fred Stolting's term on the Zoning Board of appeals expires on October 14, APPEALS TERM 1971 and Council authorized Attorney Baldwin to prepare the necessary resolution reappointing him as he did state his desire to remain on the Board. STANDARD DOOR AGEEMET Council authorized the City Attorney to pursue whatever course of action necessary to hold the Architect liable for the condition of the outside doors on the Public Assembly room and any other outside doors at the new City Hall. MAINTLKANCE BLDG Council was in favor of granting the recommendations of the Planning and FOR PUD - Zoning Commission for one maintenance building for Tanglewood and instructed the City Attorney to prepare an Ordinance for Thursday, October 21, 1971. DAPHNE AVE None of the petitioners for the reduction of the speed limit on Daphne Ave. SPH:.FD LIMIT were present because of the PTA meeting so Council deferred any action until petitioners were present and were in receipt of recommendations from the Police Department. YAA RE: Council discussed the possibility of lowering the rate for the use of the LIGHTS lights at Plant Drive ball field. The suggestion was made to lower the rate from $5.00 an hour to $2.50 per hour, which will be considered in the Budget discussion. Council requested an estimate of the billing for Plant Drive lights for the football and baseball program. ANNOUNCEMENTS The Boy Scouts will conduct a clean up of the major boulevards of the City on Saturday October 30, 1971. Beautification Committee suggested a Xmas treee lighting ceremony and also to establish a beautification week for December 4 through the 11. 10/14/71 Page 3 A letter to Banners Trust,as written by the Beautification and Environmental Committee regarding the lights at the entrance on Garden Boulevard was reviewed and Council instructed Mr. Carlson to inform the Committee the City was not interested in absorbing the cost and maintenance of the lights at the entrance at the present time.
