HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Council 060969CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS REGULAR MEETING OF 1HE CITY COUNCIL June 9, 1969 REGULAR MEETING The regular meeting of the Council of the City of Palm Beach Gardens was held on June 9, 1969 at 8 :00 P.M., 3704 Burns Road, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Mayor Jewett presided. QUORUM Mayor Jewett instructed the City Clerk to call the roll. Present were: Vice Mayor Blanck, Councilman Bonner, Councilman Walker, Councilman Prentiss and Mayor Jewett. MINUTES OF REGULAR Motion by Councilman Walker, seconded by Councilman MEETING? MAY 26, 1969 Prentiss that the reading of the minutes of May 26, 1969 be waived and approval be by each councilman's signature. Vote 5 ayes and no nays. Councilman Bonner complimented City Clerk and City Manager on the new procedure employed for the agenda and on the clarity of the minutes as presented. Compliments were given to Mr. Keesee, Building Official and Leonard Devine for the new driveway entrance to the Fire Department. DEPARTMENT REPCR TS Mayor Jewett reviewed the reports of the Building, Public Works, Recreation, Fire, Police and Tax Collector for the month of May, 1969. He stated the Fire Department was still accepting donations for the Radio Alert System. The Tax Collectors report of a Minutes of Regular Meeting, June 9, 1969 Page 2 complete collection of Real Taxes for 1968 with no Tax Sale was mentioned with praise. Councilman Bonner stated this was a first time happening. COMMUNICATIONS PROCLAMATION IOTH Mayor Jewett read his proclamation in celebration of ANNIVERSARY# FIRST AMBRICAN BANK the 10th Anniversary of First American Bank which declared the month of June as Community Appreciation month. Mr. Sellers letter from the Planning and Zoning Commission was reviewed in regard to the proposed North County Complex on 10 acres of land south of P.G.A. Blvd. Motion by Councilman Bonner, seconded by Councilman Walker that the Planning and Zoning Board be authorized informally to meet with County representatives. Mayor to appoint a member of Council who will also attend. Vote 5 ayes and 0 nays. ORDINANCE #13, 1969 Motion by Councilman Walker, seconded by Councilman CONTROL OF BINGO Prentiss to read on first reading Ordinance #13, 1969, Control of Bingo. Vote 5 ayes and O nays. Mayor Jewett instructed the City Clerk to read Ordinance #13, 1969. ORDINANCE #10, 1969 Motion by Councilman Bonner, seconded by Councilman SETTING T Walker to read in full as amended on second reading Ordinance #10, 1969, setting height of fences. Vote 5 ayes and O nays. Mayor Jewett instructed the City Minutes of Regular Meeting, June 9, 1969 Page 3 Clerk to read Ordinance #109 1969 in full. Discussion followed with Councilman Prentiss stating he was not in accord with the Ordinance change. Voting on motion, Councilman Bonner, Blanck, and Walker and Mayor Jewett voted aye and Councilman Prentiss voted nay. Vote 4 ayes and 1 nay. ORDINANCE #12r 1969 Motion by Councilman walker, seconded by Councilman ORDINANCE Prentiss to read by title only on second reading Ordinance #12, 1969 Amending Swimming Pool Ordinance #49 1968 which allows exemption from safety barrier requirements. Vote to read 5 ayes and no nays. The City Clerk was instructed to read Ordinance #12, 1969 by title only. Motion by Councilman Walker, seconded by Councilman Bonner to adopt Ordinance #12, 1969. Vote 5 ayes and O nays. NEW BUSINESS Councilman Prentiss asked for suggestions as to correct- ing the traffic light on AlA and Lighthouse Drive for a left turn signal to Lighthouse Drive. Mr. Carlson was instructed by the Council to check with the Road Department and also find out the installation cost. Placed on the agenda for next worksbop meeting was discussion on establishment of a Post Office for the City of Palm Beach Gardens. OLD BUSINESS Discussion of the shellrock paths to be constructed along Military Trail for school children resulted in Minutes of Regular Meeting, June 9, 1969 Page 4 the Council asking the City Manager to get estimates and place this on the agenda for June 16, 1969. Mayor Jewett referred back to the placement of a white light underneath the traffic light on Military Trail and Council recommended and approved. Councilman Bonner questioned the status of the sign at Garden Apartments on Military Trail. The Council asked Mr. Carlson, City Manager to contact the County office to check whether the owners of Garden Apartments had obtained a permit. Other subjects touched on were sidewalks which Mayor Jewett stated had been planned by the Zoning Board for their next session and Mr. Marion, Architect for Municipal Complex was in the process of presenting his new plans for the City Complex. ADJOURNMENT No further business and meeting adjourned on a motion by Councilman Bonner, seconded by Councilman Walker. Vote 5 ayes and O nays. Time for the record 9:45 P.M.
