Revised location and art concept
After reviewing many different types and examples of public art the owner has become intrigued
with public art that is functional and /or architectural in nature; something that can be used by the
public. He also wishes to commission a work that speaks of patriotism.
The public art will be integrated into the site and will become a site specific and functional work
of art. Artist /consultants to design fountain — plaza — turnabout area. The actual art will be
carved glazed tiles which will be installed on four triangular columns. However, the overall
design which will support the tiles will incorporate sidewalk, paverbricks, fountain and
landscaping. Please see attached preliminary drawings.
The concept begins with the word Mirasol which means "look to the sun." This center plaza
connects four roadways or site sections with corners that point North, South, East and West
which give it a "compass" feel and many compasses have the symbol of a sun in their center.
Using these ideas of direction or looking to the sun for direction, the artist has turned to the US
Declaration of Independence and Constitution, which are documents our country looks to for
direction. The ideals of equality, life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.
Untitled Fountain Dimensions:
■ 16 foot — inside diameter of fountain
■ 4 three sided columns — 3 feet each side — 8 feet total height — 6' /z feet above fountain wall
■ 18 inch total height fountain wall with 2 inch bullnose cap
■ 4 foot by 4 foot pyramid, 3 feet in height
■ interior of fountain inlaid stone or pressed concrete to look like stone
■ Single water head to trickle water over rough surface of pyramid — little to no standing water
