HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Council 031367REGULAR MEETING PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE QUORUM CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL March 13, 1967 The regular meeting of the Council of the City of Palm Beach Gardens was held on Monday, March 13, 1967, at 8:00 P.M., at the Meridian Park Clubhouse. Mayor Diamond presided. Mayor Diamond instructed Councilman Brown to lead in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Mayor Diamond instructed the Clerk to call the roll. All of the Councilmen were present. MINUTES Motion by Councilman Bonner, seconded by Councilman Hughes, that the reading of the minutes of February 27th be waived, and approval will be by each Councilman's signature. Vote was 5 -0 in favor of the motion. Mayor Diamond stated that the minutes of the Special Meeting of March 9th were not yet completed and would be read at the next regular meeting, March 27th. Motion by Councilman Hughes, seconded by Councilman Bonner, that the minutes of the Special Meeting of March 9th, be read at the next regular meeting. Vote was 5 -0 in favor of the motion. DEPARTMENT REPORTS Mayor Diamond instructed the Clerk to read the department reports from the Department of Public Safety, Building Department, Fire Department, Public Works Department, Minutes of Regular Meeting March 13, 1967 Page 2 and the Parks & Recreation Department. RES. #8 -1967 Motion by Councilman Earle, seconded by Councilman Brown ADOPTING THE PERMANENT VOTER REGISTRATION that Res. #8 -1967, adopting the permanent registration SYSTEM OF PALM BETCH COUNTY system of Palm Beach County as the registration system for the elections of the City of Palm Beach Gardens, be read by the Clerk. Vote was 5 -0 in .favor of the motion. Motion by Councilman Hughes, seconded by Councilman Bonner, that Res. #8 -1967 be adopted as read by the Clerk. On the discussion of the motion, Mayor Diamond commented that this Resolution would eliminate double registration for City and County, and should help get more people at the polls in City and County elections. Mayor Diamond called for a vote on the motion. The vote was 5 -0 in .favor of the motion. RES. #9 -1967 Motion by Councilman Earle, seconded by Councilman Hughes, APPOINTING EUGENE WALKER TO THE PALM BEACH GARDENS that Res. #9 -1967, appointing Eugene Walker to the Palm RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD Beach Gardens Recreation Advisory Board, be read by the Clerk. Vote was 5 -0 in favor of the motion. Mayor Diamond instructed the Clerk to read Res. #9 -1967. Motion by Councilman Hughes, seconded by Councilman Bonner, that Res. #9 -1967 be adopted as read by the Clerk. Vote was 5 -0 in favor of the motion. RES. #10 -1967 Motion by Councilman Bonner, seconded by Councilman FixING COMPENSATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE Hughes, that Res. #10 -1967, fixing the compensation of EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF the City Council and the effective date thereof, be read `� by the Clerk. Motion by Councilman Hughes, seconded by Councilman Bonner, that Res. #10 -1967 be adopted as read by the Clerk. Vote was 5 -0 in favor of the motion. RES. #11 -1967 Motion by Councilman Bonner, seconded by Councilman AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE Hughes, that Res. #11 -1967, authorizing the Mayor and A LEASE ON THE DR. PEPPER PROPERTY IN PALM B CH City Clerk to execute a lease on the Dr. Pepper property GARDENS in Palm Beach Gardens, be read by the Clerk. Vote was 5 -0 in favor of the motion. Mayor Diamond instructed the Clerk to read Res. #11 -1967. Motion by Councilman Bonner, seconded by Councilman Brown, that Res. #11 -1967 be adopted as read by the Clerk. Vote was 5 -0 in favor of the motion. ORD. #8 -1967 Motion by Councilman Brown, seconded by Councilman Earle, ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THERETO THE SCHEDULE OF that Ord. #8 -1967, adopting by reference thereto the PERMIT FEESt CHARGES AND EXPENSES AS SET FORTH IN schedule of permit fees, charges and expenses as set SECTION 107.4 OF THE CODE TI CITY OF WEST PALM forth in Section 107.4 of the code of the City of West BEACH, FLORIDA Palm Beach, Florida, be placed on first reading and read by the Clerk. Vote was 5 -0 in favor of the motion. Mayor Diamond instructed the Clerk to read Ord. #8 -1967. MOTION TO APPOINT COUNCIL- Motion by Councilman Hughes, seconded by Councilman MAN NORMAN E. BROWN TO THE PALM BEACH COUNTY Bonner, that Councilman Norman E. Brown be appointed to COMMUNITY ACTION COUNCIL serve as liason from the Council to the Palm Beach County Community Action Council. Vote was 4 -0 in favor of the motion. Councilman Brown abstained. Minutes of Regular Meeting March 13, 1967 MOTION TO AWARD THE BID FOR A 1967 DUMP TRUCK TO BENZ CHEVROLET FOR THEIR BID IN THE AMOUNT OF r Page 4 Motion by Councilman Earle, seconded by Councilman Hughes, that the Council accept and award the bid for a 1967 dump truck, to Benz Chevrolet for their low bid in the amount of $4,225.86. It was established that they met all specifications. MOTION TO AUTHORIZE THE Motion by Councilman Hughes, seconded by Councilman Brown, MANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR AN AEROSOL MOSQUITO FOGGER that the City Manager be authorized to call for bids on an aerosol mosquito fogger and prepare specifications for same. Vote was 5 -0 in favor of the motion. OLD BUSINESS Mayor Diamond gave a lengthy and detailed report to the REPORT ON THE ACCOMPLISH- MENTS IN THE CITY BY Council and audience relative to the major accomplish - MAYOR DIAMOND ments that had been resolved during the preceeding year. He discussed many Ordinances and Resolutions and the reason that they they were passed. He gave a detailed resume of the people in City Hall and their accomplish- ments in the preceeding year. In summarizing his comments, he stated that he felt the ensuing year would bring forth more accomplishments than had been undertaken in the past. Mr. Eugene Walker, President of the Khoury League thanked the members of the Council and all participating departments for their assistance in making the Khoury League parade a success. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Councilman Earle, seconded by Councilman Hughes, that the meeting be adjourned. Vote was 5 -0 in favor of the motion.
