HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Board of Equalization 102266MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION October 22, 1966 The annual Board of Equalization was held Saturday, October 22, 1966, from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M., at City Hall, 10128 Meridian Way, Meridian Park, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, for the purpose of equalizing the 1966 Tax Roll. Mayor Jackson called the meeting to order at 9:00 A.M. and stated that all Councilmen and the Tax Assessor were present. Mr. Jerome Kelly, representing Mr. Walter Kelly as Trustee, re- quested that the Board review the assessment on a parcel of land located in Section $-42 -43, amounting to 74.5 acres. Mr. Kelly presented his case and requested that the Board reduce the assessment. Mr. Tony Silva, representing Bankers Life & Casualty Company and other associated subsidiaries, requested that the Board review the assess- ment on Section 9- 42-42, Section 16- 42 -42, Section 15- 42 -42, Section 10- 42 -42, Section 3- 42 -429 Section 19- 42 -42, Section 6- 42 -43, Section 7- 42 -43, Section 8- 42 -43, and Section 12- 42 -42. Mr. Silva presented his case and requested that the Board reduce the assessment on these properties. Mr. Henry V. McCaddin, representing Radio Corporation of America, requested that the Board review the assessment on part of Section 10- 42 -42, Section 15- 42 -42, Section 12- 42 -42, and Section 7 -42 -43 to see if they could reduce the assessment. He also requested the Board to reduce the Tangible Personal Property assessment from $9,500,000 to $5,069,100. He presented evidence why the Board should do this. The Board reviewed each and every request as outlined above, and with full consideration of all testimony taken, directed the Tax Assessor to ., change the following: i Minutes of Board of Equalization Oct. 22, 1966 Page 2 1. Walter Kelly, Trustee, Section 5 -42 -43 The Board directed the Tax Assessor to reduce the assessment from $5,000 per acre to $4,500 per acre. This makes a total adjustment in the Roll of $37,250. 2. Bankers Life & Casualty Company, Section 8- 42 -43, approximately 150 acres. The Board directed the Tax Assessor to reduce the assessment from $5,000 per acre to $4,000 per acre. This makes a total adjustment in the Roll of $150,000. 3. Henry V. McCaddin, representing Radio Corporation of America, Tangible Personal Property. The Board directed the Tax Assessor to reduce the assessment of Tangible Personal Property from $9,500,000 to $5,069,100. This makes a total adjustment in the Roll of $4,430,900. In conclusion of the meeting, the Board instructed the Tax Assessor to notify each of the persons stated above of the adjustments in the Roll. Mayor Jackson stated there being no further business to come be- fore the Board of Equalization, the meeting stands adjourned at 9:00 P.M., October 22, 1966.
