MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL
TUESDAY, .TUNE 25, 1963
The regular meeting of the City Council was held at 1001 Park
Avenue, Lake Park, Florida, on Tuesday, June 25, 1963, at 10:00 o'clock
A.M.
gUORUM: The Mayor announced that a quorum of the City Council was
present.
PROPOSED The Mayor advised the City Council that, in view of action taken
GENERAL
ORDINANCE by the 1963 session of the Florida Legislature in increasing the excise
NO. IO (A)
CIGARETTE TAX taxes on cigarettes, it was advisable at this time to enact an Ordinance
ORDINANCE:
for the City of Palm Beach Gardens which would enable the municipality to
secure its pro rata share of such increased taxes. Municipal Counsel had
prepared an Ordinance to this effect.
This proposed Ordinance, tentatively numbered General Ordinance
No. 10(A), was then read in full for the first time.
PROPOSED The Mayor reminded the City Council that on March 11, 1963, it

ORDINANCE had requested Municipal Counsel to study the application of NORTH PALM
NO. 12 - BUS
ORDINANCE: BEACH BUS CO., INC. to operate a bus line in the City. As a result of
this study, Municipal Counsel prepared an Ordinance, which the Mayor
recommended be adopted.
This proposed Ordinance, tentatively numbered General Ordinance
No. 12, was then read in full for the first time.

FAITHFUL In order for a municipal police officer to charge one with a
PERFORMANCE
�—OF DUTY BONDS violation of Section 843.01, Florida Statutes, 1961 - "Resisting officer
ON CITY POLICE -
MEN; APPROVAL: with violence to his person ", it is necessary that said officers be
bonded in a sum not less than one thousand dollars ($1000.00). The Mayor
informed the City Council that he had been instrumental in having each of
the City's five (5) policemen so bonded, and he recommended that these
bonds be approved.
Whereupon, the following Resolution was duly made, seconded
and unanimously adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of PALM BEACH
GARDENS that the faithful performance of duty
bonds on Lindsey P. Jarrell, Charley A. Root,
Herbert A. Pecht, William J. Reichard, and MoEwing H.
Burrows, each in the sum of one thousand dollars
($1000.00), be, and the same hereby are, ratified
and approved in all respects.
ASSISTANT The Mayor advised the Council that the office of Assistant

CITY COURT; APPOINT- Bailiff of the City Court was vacant and Charley A. Root was qualified
MENT OF CHARLEY A.
ROOT: to fill this position.
Whereupon, the following Resolution was duly made, seconded
and unanimously adopted;
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of PALM BEACH
GARDENS that Charley A. Root be, and the same
hereby is, appointed Assistant Bailiff of City
Court effective immediately.
OATH OF OFFICE: The oath of office of Charley A. Root as Assistant Bailiff of
City Court is attached hereto.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the meeting, it
was duly adjourned to be reconvened in special session at 10:00 o'clock
A.M., Thursday, June 27, 1963.

fully perform all the duties of the office of Assistant Bailiff of the City Court of
the CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLORIDA, upon which I am about to enter, so help
me God.
