SUBJECT: Recreation Advisory Board — Motion
Develonment of a Doe Park
NS
to Support the
At the May 17, 2004 meeting of the Recreation Advis ry Board, a motion was approved
to support the development of a Dog Park. This item was placed on their agenda at their
request. Staff prepared a presentation that included possible sites and discussion points
for the Board. A copy of that PowerPoint is attached.
Through discussion, the Board motioned and app oved that a temporary site be
established on a track of land at the Lilac Park Facility. Included in the motion was a
• stipulation to utilize this as a temporary site until a permanent site could be developed at
the City Park/District Park site.
Bert Premuroso, Chair of the RAB, has developed the tached letter to send to the Mayor
explaining their recommendation. In preparation of he potential of this project being
approved, funds have been allocated in the FY 05/06 Recreation Impact Budget. I did
have the opportunity to explain to the Chair the process for adding capital plans and
indicated to him that this would follow the normal step of the budget.
Please let me know if you need further information.

Re: Recreation Advisory Board (RAB) update on proposed Dog Park
Dear Mayor Jablin:
I wanted to inform you that at the most recent Recreation Advisory
Board (RAB) meeting held
on Monday, May 17th, a motion was made by RAB members
to request funding in the upcoming
Parks and Recreation budget for the planning and development
of a new Dog Park. Since
becoming the RAB Chairman in 2001, Recreation staff and
I have consistently received calls on
the need for this type of facility in the City. These calls ha
e intensified during the past couple of
months due to local media coverage of new Dog Parks tha
were recently opened in the Village
of North Palm Beach and the City of West Palm Beach.
The preferred site location chosen by the RAB is adjacent
o the new baseball field being built
• for Palm Beach Gardens High School on Lilac Street. The
site is less than one acre and appears
to be undesirable for future development due to its size an
close proximity between the new
High School baseball field and the existing Seacoast Utilit
facility.
Of immediate attention, is the need to modify the City ord
nance regarding dogs in City parks to
allow for the development and future use of this type of park.
Currently, dogs of any size are
prohibited from entering a park within the City limits. I w
uld anticipate that the formal request
to modify this ordinance would be presented to the counci
and yourself within the next 60 days.
Thanks again for all your support of the RAB and our continuing
efforts to improve the quality
of Park and Recreation facilities that we offer to our resid
nts. We have tremendous Park and
Recreation staff in the City of Palm Beach Gardens and al
of us on the Recreation Advisory
Board feel very fortunate to work with these individuals.
Sincerely,
Bert Premuroso, Chairman
Recreation Advisory Board
City of Palm Beach Gardens
