TAX ASSZSSOR: The Mayor called attention to the fact that following the resignation of Charles Stella as Tax Assessor, no successor had been appointed. It was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that Robert Pickering be appointed Tax Assessor. BUILIE NG COTE: The Mayor reported that the Mayor and City Clerk, on the basis of general authority previously granted to them, had announced the acceptance, as a general guide, of the provisions of the Southern Standard Building Code,'57 -'58 revision; and had appointed John H. Klink as Building Official thereunder. It was the sense of the meeting that the Southern Standard Building Code should be subjected to careful perusal and recommendation should be submitted by the Mayor, the City Clerk, the City Engineer and the City Manager for variations, exceptions and extensions, to tailor its provisions to the particular needs of Palm Beach Gardens. In the meanwhile, the City Engineer was authorized to levy fees and examine applications under the standards of the aforesaid code; and to submit such applications for approval by the City Council, as a temporary and interim expedient. Signed For Special Conditions PZ33 700 A G R E E M E N T -7/ COMPROM7S,SE TAXES THE fttwiES: The parties to this agreement are: CITY OF PAIN BEACH GARTENS a municipal corporation created by act of legislature, and having its temporary, offices at 800 - 10th Street, Lake Park, Florida, hereinafter called the "CITY", and BANKERS LIFE AND CASUALTY COMPANY an insurance corporation having its principal place of business at: LJJJL W. Lawrence Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, hereinafter called "BANKERS ". GENERAL PURPOSES: BANKERS, and/or its agents, nominees, and affiliates, owns all or substantially all of the land within the corporate limits of the CITY. It is to the benefit of BANKERS that the CITY be solvent �`.. and have sufficient funds to carry on the CITY functions. The CITY was chartered by the Florida legislature in mid -;rear of 1959. It was impossible or infeasible to prepare tax assessment rolls or to levy taxes in a manner and fashion required by statute. COMPRCMISE AGREEMENT: The parties hereby agree that a fair and reasonable tax curwring all of the property within the corporate limits of the CITY would be in the;&..=diate neighborhood of $24,000- BANKERS hereby a &ides to pay,the CITY agrees to accept, the sum of $21,000 as settle- ment in full of all obligation from BANKERS, its affiliates, subsidiaries and nominees, for taxes for the year 1959 due to the CITY. The CITY agaves that such sum may be applied upon any obligation presently owed by the CITY to BANKERS, or BANKERS' subsi i!57, the F orida Construction Company.
