ADJOURNMENT City Park Natural Area and Interactive Greenway Project Goals 10’ meandering multi -use shared pathway (concrete or hard packed) Landscaping to include shade trees Trash and recycle receptacles Trail head facilities to include shaded seating area, bike racks, drinking fountains, maps, educational information Removal on non -native plant species Location Map Project Characteristics Contiguous connection to PGA Greenway linking Atlantic Ocean and Lake Okeechobee Exposure to natural areas Connects City Park and Tennis Center Interconnectivity of 2 local schools (Timber Trace Elementary and Duncan Middle) for environmental and physical education opportunities Natural Areas Sandhill Crane Trailhead and Educational Signage Existing Trails Existing Trails Existing Trails Typical Section Typical Section Right -of -way Ownership/Acquisition Shady Lakes Boulevard r -o -w is owned by the City of Palm Beach Gardens 117 th Court North is r -o -w owned by the School District of Palm Beach County Upon grant approval, City will request jurisdictional transfer of 117 th Court North Title search complete for both areas Work Performance Method Contractor will conduct work, and City staff will provide project oversight City of Palm Beach Gardens is FDOT LAP certified for the following areas: Consultant selection, bid/project award, and construction administration Public Outreach Plan City will present this project to our Recreation Advisory Board, School District of Palm Beach County, adjacent school Parent/Teachers Association, and homeowners associations Project Cost Estimate Proposed cost estimate is $545,379 Estimate is for construction activities only Project request is for 100% of transportation enhancement funding All CEI activities will be handled by City staff Thank you for your attention! Questions? City Park/Tennis Center Site - Existing City Park/Tennis Center Site - Proposed 2012 Summer Camp June 11 - August 10 Let the fun begin! Camp Gardens houses up to 400 children a week in a variety of camps. Ages 5 -13 Classic Camp Sports Camps Aquatics Camp Tennis Camp Dance, Art and Theater Camp The Recreation Division is proud to offer quality camp programming to our residents! Where there is something for everyone. CITY PARK/TENNIS CENTER EXPANSION PROJECT Highlights Since Last Meeting Have included Tennis Center future plans into the City Park Project. Project does not meet threshold to necessitate a Planning and Zoning Meeting Proposed Allocated Funding for future years: Capital - Recreation Impact Fund $800,000 FY 2013 and FY 2014 Capital - Recreation Impact Fund $1.7 million future years out(includes $700,000 for Tennis Center Clubhouse expansion) All funding is only proposed at this point. Project proposed as a 4 phase plan Phase 1 Multi -Purpose Field (work to include exotic tree removal, clearing and earthwork, irrigation and sod. Parking (appx. 54 new spots) and Connectivity Road with related sidewalks, landscape and lighting Drainage work Trails 2 Hard Tennis Courts Multipurpose Fields Landscape Buffer Playground Landscape Parking Sports Lighting Tennis Courts Picnic Shelter Gardens Summer Camp meets GardensArt The GardenArt program exhibits the work of professional artists and photographers at the City Hall Municipal Complex rotating every 6 -8 weeks. This summer the show was “Gardens Grown” by AJ Brockman. AJ is an award winning artist who has a passion for art, & design. He also has SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy), a progressive neuromuscular Disease, and has been wheelchair bound since age 2. A.J. Brockman attended summer camp with the City of Palm Beach Gardens through his teen years. He later stayed on and worked as a counselor and hall monitor assisting with our summer camp programs. He truly has grown up with us in Palm Beach Gardens. AJ Camp Gardens Counselor 2005 On June 12 and 14 Camp Gardens walked campers ages 9 -13 over to the City Hall Complex for a brief video describing how his art is was created. The campers, ages 9 -13 viewed the art exhibition and were able to ask lots of questions. They also very much enjoyed meeting AJ’s service dog “Dre ”. AJ’s positive attitude towards life was very educational and beneficial for our campers!
